~ Miles "Tails" Prower |
Miles "Tails" Prower, better known as Tails, is the deuteragonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise.
He is Sonic's best friend and sidekick. While it is arguable as to who had more of a heroic level of actions between him and Sonic, the one important difference as to why Tails has been categorized to be such a good-hearted person is because of how he has shown to have no corrupting aspects that do not come across as even remotely selfish within not only the mainstream canon, but the franchise in general.
He is voiced by Ryō Hirohashi in the Japanese version, by Corey Bringas (1999), Connor Bringas (2001), William Corkery (2004), Amy Palant (2005-2010), Kate Higgins (2010-13), and currently Colleen O'Shaughnessey (2014-present) in the English version. He is voiced by Ashleigh Ball, who also voiced Applejack in Equestria Girls, in Sonic Prime.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- He lacks any of Sonic and Knuckles' corrupting qualities, i.e. mischievousness, cockiness, bluntness, hotheadedness, and impulsiveness, being one of the most generous and friendliest individuals in the franchise. Additionally, despite his young age, his humility and more grounded nature often make him the voice of reason.
Classic Era[]
- He joined Sonic as his sidekick out of gratitude for saving him from bullies and being kidnapped by Eggman.
- He helped in stopping Eggman's plans in Sonic 2 and 3.
- He used the Tornado to get Sonic to Wing Fortress and later the Death Egg.
- In the bad ending of Sonic 2, he uses the repaired Tornado to save Sonic's life.
- He travels to Angel Island together with Sonic after the Death Egg crashes into it.
- When Dr. Eggman collapses the ground in Marble Garden, Tails saves Sonic, and together they defeat Eggman. He also flies Sonic to Carnival Night Zone.
- He helps Sonic fight Knuckles when given no choice.
- Picks up Sonic after he beats the Doomsday Zone. Had Tails not arrived Sonic would have been killed.
Sonic Adventure duology[]
- He saves Station Square from Dr. Eggman's missile. After disarming it, he defeats the doctor and his Egg Walker.
- In the Super Sonic Story, he gives Sonic one of the Chaos Emeralds. He also figures out Chaos has absorbed the negative power of the Emeralds and that Sonic can use them to neutralize Perfect Chaos. This allows Sonic to stop Chaos once and for all and restore its peaceful nature.
- He battles Dr. Eggman in his mech to save Amy in Metal Harbor.
- He went to rescue Sonic, who was arrested and sent to Prison Island.
- He created a fake Chaos Emerald to foil Eggman's plan to use the Eclipse Cannon.
- When he thought Sonic died from the explosion of the capsule Eggman trapped him in, he avenged him by defeating Eggman himself.
- He helped Sonic and his friends save the world after the Space Colony ARK is put on a collision course with Earth by helping them reach the ARK's core and neutralize it using the Master Emerald.
Sonic Heroes[]
- He teamed up with Sonic and Knuckles to defeat Neo Metal Sonic.
- He turned super with Sonic and Knuckles to defeat Metal Overlord.
Sonic Riders trilogy[]
- He was determined to ensure Sonic's Blue Star was fully optimized after Wave the Swallow's insult.
- He realized the Arks of the Cosmos would cause a black hole if they were brought to Babylon Garden.
- He and Team Heroes entered the second World Grand Prix for the fun of it rather than for the cash prize like members of the other teams. In their wins and losses, he remained good sports with their opponents.
- He tried to vouch for Sonic when Amy nagged him for not going easy on her in the race.
- He was disgusted by how Shadow and Rouge were treating E-10000B and making the robot overexert itself.
- While he was angry at Wave for insulting his customized Extreme Gear, he did not act on it. Even though Wave still belittles him after their teams' rivalry has become friendlier, Tails never returns her insults; in the second EX World Grand Prix, whether Team Heroes was winning or losing the finals with Team Babylon, he complimented her gear “as amazing as ever”, even though she gave a snide response at which he retorts in an embarrassed or self-depreciating tone.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)[]
- He helped Sonic rescue Princess Elise (and even attempted to save her by himself at one point).
- He helped in collecting the Chaos Emeralds to revive Sonic and save the multiverse.
Sonic Rivals duology[]
- He flies Sonic and Knuckles to Eggman, actually a disguised Eggman Nega's, moon base.
- He helps save Chao that Eggman Nega kidnapped and defeats the Ifrit with Sonic.
Sonic Unleashed[]
- Upon meeting Sonic again in his Werehog form, despite being a bit startled, he does not get fazed and still thanked Sonic for saving him.
- He thanked Chip for the chocolate bar upon meeting him.
- He assures Chip that Eggman, despite being a villain, is not so cruel when Chip thought that Eggman does not feed his hostages with food.
- He rescued Professor Pickle with the help of Sonic.
- He helps Sonic and Chip travel the world using his plane.
- He took Sonic and Chip to "Eggmanland".
Sonic Colors[]
- He created a translator to understand the Wisps.
- He sacrificed himself to save Sonic by pushing him away from being hit from Eggman's beam.
- He wanted to help Sonic fight Eggman before his friend pushed him into the escape pod knowing that it was for his own good.
Sonic Generations[]
- He, along with Sonic's friends, sets up Sonic's birthday party before it got crashed by the Time Eater.
- He and his classic self figured out that they needed to collect the Emeralds to fix the frozen time void.
- He, along with Sonic's friends, encouraged the Sonics to continue fighting after being nearly defeated by the Time Eater and the Eggmen.
- He and his classic version created a communicator to talk to the Sonics to help them in the battle with the Eggmans by warning them when they would attack.
Sonic Lost World[]
- He helps Sonic save the animals from Dr. Eggman.
- He tries to warn Sonic about the "shell" Eggman was holding.
- When he and Eggman explain the powers of the Cacophonic Conch, Tails shows sympathy for the Deadly Six since the Conch hurts them while inhibiting their powers.
- While he did not want to team up with Eggman, it was understandable considering that it's likely that Eggman would betray them. This was proven valid when Eggman double-crossed them.
- He fixed Cubot's voice box despite the two being enemies.
- He sacrificed himself to save Sonic by falling into the Deadly Six's trap.
- He used his tails to reprogram the roboticizer, saving himself from getting brainwashed. This would restore Sonic's resolution, given how the loss of Amy, Knuckles, and even supposedly Eggman following Tails' capture had nearly broken it.
- When Zavok commanded him to kill Sonic when he was roboticized, Tails dropped his act and shot lasers at the three Deadly Six members, even saying how he would never hurt Sonic.
- He brought back the energy to the world, therefore saving everyone from being drained of it and dying as a result.
- While he showed a temper and became a little rude and arrogant in this game, such as bragging about being able to restore the world's energy and chewing Sonic out for wanting to work with Eggman because he believed he could shut down the machine, all of it turned out to be a heating-up moment as Tails would not go on to exhibit these traits starting from Sonic Forces onwards. Not to mention, he forgives Sonic in the end for trusting Eggman.
Sonic Forces[]
- Although he failed to help Sonic defeat Infinite, he truly did try to help by scanning the jackal for his weaknesses. He also felt great remorse for Sonic's "death".
- While he didn't join the Resistance, he still was helping by trying to fix Omega.
- He teams up with Classic Sonic, once again gaining hope.
- He helps Sonic, Classic Sonic, the Avatar and the Resistance defeat Infinite and Eggman's Army.
Sonic Frontiers[]
- He, alongside Knuckles and Amy, managed to save Sonic from cyberspace corruption and death, sacrificing their own physical forms in the process, so that he could defeat The End before it could destroy all existence.
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog[]
- Attended Amy's birthday and gave her a present to celebrate.
- Was determined to figure out who "killed" Sonic, and even partnered up with the quokka to help investigate.
- Helped Sonic and everyone else to stop the Mirage Express from going out of control to stop Eggman.
Comics[]
- He defeats Heavy King and retrieves the Chaos Emeralds alongside Sonic, Knuckles, Amy, Mighty, Ray, and the Hooligans.
- He defeats Wichcraft and her minions twice, the second in which he saves Sonic and the Flickies.
- He helps Sonic take down Super Badniks that were attacking a town and opts to stay behind to help repair rather than go off with Sonic.
- He saves Sonic when he falls off the Egg Fleet during a retreat and altercation from Neo Metal Sonic.
- He contributes greatly during Resistance's liberating Angel Island from Neo Metal Sonic, using one of the Egg Fleet's battleships to decimate their forces and ram another into Master Overlord.
- Unlike Sonic, Tails had reservations on restoring Metal Sonic even after he was reduced to a weakened state. This would soon be proven valid as Metal, refusing to forsake his loyalty to Eggman, would find the doctor and be the final push to restore his memories.
- He fights Rough & Tumble with Sonic when they hold Windmill Village hostage.
- He saves Omega's head when his body is torn apart by Zombots.
- He tries to develop a cure for the Metal Virus, risking getting infected, and nearly succeeded until Zombot Cheese and Chocola attacked.
- When Eggman seized control of the Warp Topaz from Dr. Starline and disposed of him off of Angel Island to the infected world, Tails openly showed reservations unlike Sonic.
- He and Eggman build a portal generator with the Warp Topaz so that the remaining heroes could launch a simultaneous strike on the Deadly Six and get the Chaos Emeralds.
- He and Amy defeat Zommon and take his Chaos Emerald; while they leave him at the mercy of the Zombots, it was out of necessity since their situation was dire and the Zeti was a dangerous threat (in fact, they tried to get him to give them the emerald without a fight).
- He tried to sabotage Eggman's mech during the attack on Spiral Hill Village, freeing Gemerl and partially restoring Omega's free will.
- He stops Sonic from attacking a clearly harmless Belle the Tinkerer, silently scolding him, and was thankful for her saving him from Badniks.
- He insists Sonic prioritize saving White Park Chateau from Starline's avalanche over rescuing him and Rouge when the platypus kidnapped them.
- He creates the Zeti Zappers and Launcher to subdue the Deadly Six and send them back to Lost Hex.
- He helps Sonic defeat the Deadly Six, who would have killed his friend if not for his timely arrival.
- While fighting Kitsumani, he tried talking him down and when that failed, he nonlethally subdued him and also ensured he would not be captured by Eggman's forces in his helpless state.
- He finds an escape shuttle for him, Sonic, and Belle to escape Eggperial City, which was thwarted by Metal Sonic, and helped Sonic when his leg was injured in the crash.
- He helps Sonic fight Surge when she terrorizes Central City with the Dynamo Cage.
- In Starline's abandoned Eggman base, he helps Sonic fight Metal Sonic.
- He calls out Eggman for abusing Starline, pointing out how it resulted in the suffering and threat of Surge and Kit.
- He tries to appeal to Kit again and offers to help him and Surge.
- When Eggman tries to take an unconscious Surge and the Dynamo Cage, Tails seems less angered compared to Sonic when Eggman correctly guesses they were not going to honor their part of the deal, as they intended on "accidentally" destroying the Dynamo Cage.
- He aids in the assault on Eggperial City.
- During the Clean Sweepstakes race, he doesn't lash out at Wave belittling his gear.
- When his, Sonic, and Amy's Extreme Gear malfunctions, he feels guilt even though it was clearly not his fault and actually sabotaged.
Trivia[]
- He was previously approved as Pure Good, until he was removed from the rank due to him failing the standards to Sonic during Sonic Forces and was approved as Near Pure Good for a time, but after Sonic Frontiers was released and he became more admirable, his Pure Good status was restored.
- His Sonic Boom counterpart cannot qualify as Pure Good due to possessing genuine corrupting qualities.
