NOTE: This only covers the human individual as her robot counterpart is a separate being and only her history from the Japanese Generation One Continuity should be on here as her Classics, Transformers: Animated, IDW Comics and Transformers: Earth Wars versions weren't voted Pure Good

Minerva is the deuteragonist of the 1988 Japanese anime Transformers: Super-God Masterforce. She is a human who joins the Autobots after the Decepticons reemerge on Earth, becoming an Autobot Headmaster Junior. Minerva becomes one of the first Autobots who attempts to make a considerable attempt to appeal to conflicted Decepticons to switch sides throughout the war.

She is voiced by Yuriko Yamamoto.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • Unlike the other Autobots from Masterforce, such as Ginrai, Shuta, and Cab, who have serious corrupting factors or have a least have a corrupting personality such as serious tempers and enjoying violence, or don't have any clear personality at all, Minerva both has a clear personality and has no corrupting factors at all.
  • Minerva is one of the few Autobots in the show to treat members of the Decepticon faction with kindness, and while certainly willing to condemn the actions of the Decepticons, she is also willing to separate the members who wear the faction symbol from the faction as a whole, as she shows kindness to both Cancer and Clouder despite both of them being Decepticons and, in Cancer's case, showing initial hostility towards her.
  • While she does often express annoyance at Shuta and Cab's antics, these are very rare and she never stays mad at them for long, making these temporary heating up moments. Furthermore, when she does call them out, there are times where they legitimately deserve the criticism, such as when they attempt to rush into the fight, or if they take their crush on her too far.
  • While the admirable standards for the Japanese G1 continuity are high, Minerva manages to stand out in that she is directly responsible for causing two Decepticons to defect to the Autobots, and she even goes out of her way to save members of the Decepticons on several instances, despite having been their victim on multiple occasions, even using nonlethal weapons on them rather than killing them if she can help it. This makes her unique in that all of the other Pure Goods in the G1 continuity treat the Decepticons as irredeemably evil and often won't save them unless the factions are in a temporary alliance against a bigger threat. She also only has her Transtector and the resources the Autobots had on Earth, meaning she does the best she can with the small amount of resources that she has, which allows her to stand alongside Optimus Prime, Rodimus Prime, and Star Saber, Optimus Primal, Lio Convoy or even Megatron despite them having far more resources.
  • While she does gain quite a large bodycount of Seacon, Sparkdash, and Guardminer drones, this is justified due to the fact that she is fighting in a war and in self-defence. It is especially justified in the final arc of the show, when Devil Z and BlackZarak is actively attempting a genocide/omnicide of all life on Earth. In addition, the drones are mindless with no sapience or just enough instruction to perform basic tasks.
  • While she does have a few comedic moments in the show, she is rarely the cause of the comedy, and the comedy is almost always from the other characters around her rather than from Minerva herself. Furthermore, these comedic moments do not detract from her admirability or her actions.

Transformers: Super-God Masterforce[]

  • When she is first introduced in the series after the plane carrying her and her parents is forced to make a crash landing, she expresses more concern over their well-being than her own.
  • She does not hesitate to work with the Autobot Pretenders, when they decieve her by saying they work with the government. Upon learning that the Autobots lied to her about what they really were, she is livid, but after witnessing their heroics, does forgive them, when they admit they had not wished to deceive her.
  • Upon becoming a Headmaster Junior, she does not hesitate to embrace her role as a medic, only fighting if the circumstances force her to and even reminding Shuta and Cab to perform their rescue duties and not to fight unless they don't have any other choice.
  • In one episode, she struggles with a strong fear of fighting and this fear causes her to initially stay out of a battle when the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors attack a city. However, she overcomes her fear in order to save a little girl who had been injured in the attack.
    • She fully overcomes her fear when she witnesses Wilder kill the girl's puppy just because he was annoyed by the dog's barking. Witnessing the girl grieve over her puppy is enough to send Minerva into a justifiable temporary rage, transforming into robot mode and quickly defeating the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors, forcing them to retreat. Given that this is one of the worst things Wilder does in the entire show, this is explicitly by the show as fully justified. She also calms down quickly enough after the Decepticon Juniors flee and leads Cab to help Shuta against the Lobclaw pinning him down. She also helps the girl bury her dead puppy and agrees to help her find a new one.
  • Minerva, along with the rest of the Autobot Headmaster Juniors, don't hesitate to rescue Chris when he is kidnapped by Wilder. When the initial plan to rescue Chris fails, she orders Mary to hide and transforms to robot mode. After briefly battling Bullhorn, she attempts to make a break for Chris but is stopped when Cancer takes Mary hostage. Minerva condemns Cancer for using a hostage to end the fighting, and when Chris manages to crash a motorcycle into Cancer to injure and distract Cancer enough so that he lets Mary go, Minerva jumps into action and grabs Chris. When the Decepticon Juniors are briefly disoriented, Minerva shoots them with her paralyzing shock gun and convinces Shuta to take the brief opportunity they have to flee, saving Chris and Mary from Wilder.
  • When the Decepticon Pretenders began causing animal stampedes in Africa, she began to care for a fawn that was injured in one of the stampedes, while showing disgust at the Decepticon Pretenders for using innocent animals to harm humans.
  • When the Decepticons attack a hang-gliding competition, Minerva wastes no time in treating the contestants who are injured in the attack, preventing anyone from recieving serious injuries.
  • When Shuta is lost in thought due to the new Decpticon Godmaster brothers, Hydra and Buster, Minerva manages to get him out of it. Later, when Cab is scolded by Metalhawk for not taking the Hydra brothers seriously, Minerva manages to help Cab snap out of his brief depression. When the Hydra brothers attack the new power plant at Viscas Island, Minerva once again performs her medical duties, saving the lives of the injured.
  • When the new Autobot Godmaster, Ginrai captures the Decepticon Headmaster Junior Cancer to interrogate him about the Godmasters, Minerva is disgusted that Ginrai would treat Cancer so coldly, having him handcuffed despite the fact that Cancer is injured. Minerva begins to treat Cancer's injuries, despite Cancer's hostility and Shuta and Cab's attempts to dissuade her since Cancer was a Decepticon. She later offered Cancer a drink, even though Cancer pointed out that he was a Decepticon. Cancer resisted, suspecting the drink was tampered, causing Minerva to drop the glass and cut her hand. When Shuta and Cab entered the room and realized that Cancer had injured Minerva, Minerva put herself between them and Cancer to prevent them from harming him. When Ginrai, angered that his old life was being destroyed due to him becoming a Godmaster, stormed into the room and began to violently interrogate Cancer, a horrified Minerva called Ginrai out, and pointing out that Cancer was still injured. Ginrai backed down, and Minerva offered Cancer another drink again, who accepted it. The Juniors were ordered to leave as Ginrai and Metalhawk began to interrogate Cancer about the Godmasterss, Minerva went to the control room and listened to the conversation to be certain that Cancer was not being harmed. Cancer was later released with a homing beacon on his back and the Autobot Headmaster Juniors took Cancer from the base to release him. As Cancer prepared to leave, he called the Autobots out for their treatment of him, but noticeably stopped his rant when his gaze turned to Minerva. After a brief look of confusion from Cancer, he turned to leave and ran straight into Wilder, Bullhorn, Hydra and Buster. Hydra destroyed the homing beacon and a battle broke out. Ginrai arrived, but Buster took Minerva as a hostage. However, Cancer grabbed Minerva and begged the Hydra brothers not to harm anyone, with the distraction causing the Decepticons to retreat. Minerva thanked Cancer for saving her from Buster. Cancer claimed that saving her life was repayment for the drink, but it is clear that Minerva's kindness and compassion towards Cancer despite him being a Decepticon had awoken something in him, marking the beginning of Cancer struggling with his allegiance to the Decepticons.
  • When she and Ginrai still have lingering tension between them over the treatment of Cancer, Metalhawk convinces her to speak with Ginrai, where Ginrai admits that Minerva was completely correct to call him out on his treatment of Cancer and that he let his temper get the better of him, and the two acknowledge apologize over their brief feud.
  • When the Decepticon Pretenders kidnap several children, with the intention of luring Ginrai into an area where he can be defeated by King Poseidon, Minerva and the other Autobot Headmaster Juniors headed to America to rescue them. During the attack the Autobots launch on the island, which is a feint to draw attention away from the cave while Ginrai saves the children, Minerva appeals to Cancer and reminding him of her kindness before calling on him to join the Autobots. Although Bullhorn attacked her and prevented her appeal from really hitting Cancer, it is heavily implied from Cancer's notable hesitation before he gives an answer to her appeal that had it managed to hit home, Cancer would have defected then and there, given that all of the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors openly objected to the orders to kidnap the children and only obeyed once the Pretenders began to threaten them. Later on in the fight, Minerva made another appeal to Cancer to join sides, and her words were aided when Metalhawk revealed that the Decepticon Pretenders had abandoned the Decepticon Juniors to the Autobots. The Juniors fled into the sea as Minerva called out Cancer's name, saddened over the fact she could not get him to defect.
  • In the final arc when Devil Z possessed BlackZarak and attempted to wipe out humanity, she alongside Shūta Gō and Cab would help power-up God Ginrai to defeat the two villains.

Transformers: Legends[]

  • Taking place after the events of Masterforce she Shuta and Cab would travel to the Legends World to help Ginrai out defending it where they would help power up God Ginrai once again in fighting a revived Devil Z.
  • When her Legends World doppelgänger Nightbeat stole a rebuild Godbomber's body she, Shuta and Can would rebuild a second body allowing him to become God Ginrai and destroy the imposter.
  • When Giga and Mega ended up capturing Ginrai and Godbomber, she combined with Ginrai's Transtector to fight off the villains.
  • She would end up aiding God Ginrai in his duel against Overlord Tera allowing her alongside Shuta, and Cab help pull through.
  • She would aid in fighting against a rebuilt Trypticon before getting captured and put out of commission in the fight.
  • When Devil Z summoned in BlackZarak intending in wiping out all life of the Legends World to become powerful and destroying all other universes, Minerva allied with the other MasterForce users including Whitelune, Giga, Mega, Doubleclouder, Sue Fareborn, Shaoshao Li, Cancer, Wilder, and Bullhorn to help God Ginrai and Grand Maximus in defeating him.
  • When Scorponok used his Majin Zarak body to attempt to attack and destroy the Legends World she would have a supporting role in helping with the events and would help Megatron (who redeemed himself) in evacuating the Legends World when Scorponok used the Plasma Energy of the Mutant Targetmasters to blow up the universe.
