Mrs. Brisby or Brisby for short, is the main protagonist the critically acclaimed 1982 animated film The Secret of NIMH, and a supporting character in its 1998 direct-to-video animated sequel, The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue. She is the widow of Jonathan Brisby and the mother of Teresa, Martin, Cynthia, and Timmy Brisby. She is an adaptation of Mrs. Frisby from the Rats of NIMH book series, with her name being changed in order to avoid confusion with the toy of the same name.
She was voiced by the late Elizabeth Hartman in the first film, and Debi Mae West in The Secret of NIMH 2.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- Despite being devastated by the death of her husband Jonathan, she raised and took care of her children on her own afterwards.
- Even in spite of her fears, she still decided to go out of her way to face them in order to save her family.
- Despite Jeremy being irritating towards her, she never acts jerkish towards him despite her anger being justified.
- When Nicodemus and the other rats of NIMH shared their plan of travelling to Thorn Valley where they would be safe, she was the one who volunteered to drug Dragon the cat in order to make it work, in spite of her fear of doing so (especially considering that attempt to do so to Dragon was what cost the life of her husband, Jonathan).
- Warned the other rats about NIMH's arrival to exterminate them in spite of it being quickly sabotaged by Jenner attacking her.
- She warned Justin of Jenner about to strike him from above.
- Brisby's will to save her family is what gave power to the amulet, which she used to lift her and her family's house and move it to safety to save her and her children.
- Successfully saved her son Timmy from pneumonia in the end by rearranging their home in Thorn Valley, a place where he could heal properly.
- Because of her saving Timmy, her son grew up to save Thorn Valley from being taken over by large soldier built rats.
