Nancy Olivia Thompson is the main protagonist of the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise by Wes Craven. She is a teenage girl who is stalked by Freddy Krueger, the vengeful spirit of a child murderer who can kill people by invading their dreams.
She was portrayed by Heather Langenkamp, who also played the fictionalized version of herself in Wes Craven's New Nightmare.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- She's the most innocent person in her friend group, and while she seems somewhat out of place in the group, she still cares for them a lot.
- She agrees to stay with her friend Tina to comfort her when she's afraid that Freddy is coming after her, while turning down her boyfriend's advances, telling him they're there for Tina and nothing else.
- She tries to protect Rod from the police who think he's the killer, stopping them from shooting him.
- She tries her best to protect her friends from Freddy and is horrified at each of their deaths.
- She survives several of Freddy's attempts to kill her, learning she can pull objects out of her dreams into the real world.
- She shows some sympathy for Freddy despite how monstrous he is, as she's visibly horrified when she hears that her mother and the other townspeople burned him alive.
- She comes up with a plan to stop Freddy, bravely challenging him to face her, and rigging her house with booby traps to give her an advantage. She puts up a fierce fight when he attacks her and manages to set him on fire.
- She calmly tells Freddy that she knows she has been dreaming all of this and that she isn't afraid of him anymore, so he can't hurt her, causing Freddy to disappear.
- She becomes a psychologist and works with children who are being threatened by Freddy. She befriends Kristen Parker and is able to learn that Freddy is alive and coming back for revenge.
- She saves Kristen from being killed by Freddy.
- Upon being fatally wounded by Freddy, Nancy manages to stab him and take him down, saving the other children at the hospital. Although Freddy doesn't stay dead, she still succeeded in saving the children, and her research on dreams ensures that future generations will be ready for Freddy if he comes after them.
