Nezuko Kamado (竈門 禰豆子) is the deuteragonist and main heroine of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise.
She's the sister of Tanjiro Kamado, and the second eldest child of the Kamado Family. She was turned into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji, following his attack on the Kamado Family, leaving her and Tanjiro as the sole survivors. Despite this, she still maintains her humanity strong enough to resist Muzan's control and aid her brother in his efforts to defeat him and the Demon Race.
She was voiced by Akari Kitō in Japanese and Abby Trott in English.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- She always supported and helped her family when she was still human, babysitting her younger siblings taking care and looking after them.
- Despite getting turned as a demon, Nezuko barely shows any corrupting factors and puts her family and friends well being above her hunger, unlike other demons. This also proves she doesn't suffer from moral agency issues.
- The only corrupting factor that Nezuko ever had was when she accidentally lost control of herself and attempted to harm humans. However, this wasn’t her fault as it happened when she first became a demon and when she was in her awakened demon form, so she wasn’t aware or conscious of her actions at those times , plus whenever Tanjiro came for her, she was remorseful for her actions (or at least calmed herself down) as she was crying at both times after she first became a demon and when Tanjiro sang her their mother's lullaby later during the series.
- She loves her brother Tanjiro Kamado and does everything she can to protect him from harm.
- She is very forgiving, even with those who have wronged her, such as Sanemi.
- Due to her comical nature, she tends to lighten the dark tone of the story.
- Despite being a demon with less resources than others, she risked her well being to protect Tanjiro and the other demon slayers.
Final Selection Arc[]
- When she believed Giyu was going to kill her brother, she immediately rushed in to protect him, despite clearly being weaker than him. This earned Giyu's approval, who spared Nezuko and began Tanjiro's path to becoming a demon slayer.
- She protected her brother from the Temple Demon, who was attempting to kill Tanjiro.
Rehabilitation Training Arc[]
- She refused to drink human blood despite being tempted. The most notable example being in the case of Sanemi Shinazugawa, whose blood is very intoxicating to demons.
Entertainment District Arc[]
- She saved her brother’s life, even risking her own life against Daki, the Upper Six Kizuki Demon.
- After Gyutaro's Blood Demon Art was unleashed, she quickly used her Blood Demon Art to purge Gyutaro's technique, saving those who could've been killed by it.
- She uses her Blood Demon Art on Tengen Uzui, who was heavily wounded and poisoned due to Gyutaro, allowing him to survive the battle, earning more of the corps' trust as a result.
Swordsmith Village Arc[]
- She aided in the defense of the Swordsmith Village by assisting Tanjiro, Genya, and Mitsuri in battling Hantengu and his clones.
- She kicks Tanjiro in the direction of Hantengu so her brother would kill him to save the swordsmiths instead of covering her from sunlight, fully intending to sacrificing her life.
Sunrise Showdown Arc[]
- She retained her human emotions and memories, and despite the demonic nature from the blood Kibutsuji put into her veins, her human will was able to overpower it, and she kept herself under control.
- She was ready to sacrifice her own life to undo the demonic transformation that Muzan had done to Tanjiro.
