This article pertains to a Pure Good with more than one version who is Pure Good! |
“ | This is the beginning of the end. We have never known this level of chaos. First, the Combiners were out of control. Now, the Titans have awoken, and will level cities with their combat. Perhaps our species has run its course. If we do not utterly destroy ourselves, the Gods will one day end it for us. | „ |
~ Optimus reflects on the past and the future |
Optimus Prime (originally Orion Pax) is the deuteragonist of the Transformers Prime Wars Trilogy cartoon. He is the former Prime and leader of the Autobots struggling to keep Cybertron together in his self-exile.
He was voiced by Jon Bailey in Titans Return and by Peter Cullen for the rest of the series, who has also voiced nearly every version of the character.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- In the past, Optimus led the Autobots against Megatron's Decepticons and after realizing that the war had become a never-ending struggle of constant death, he challenged Megatron to a final duel with all of their troops as witnesses, defeating the Decepticon Leader and refusing to take the killing blow even after Megatron tried to provoke him to do it.
- Afterwards, he gave up leadership of the Autobots for the greater good, becoming a wanderer and allowing peace to blossom on Cybertron where Autobots and Decepticons are at peace, led by Rodimus and the Mistress of Flames.
- 40 years later, he received a message from Computron regarding Windblade's arrival to Cybertron to end the Combiner Wars.
- Optimus is then attacked by Windblade after breaking Maxima's rifle, but remains solely on the defensive, while trying to calm her down, explaining the message he received and inquires as to why she attacked the council.
- After hearing Windblade's hatred for Autobots, Decepticons and even Combiners, he told her that the Autobots always fought for what's right and that he couldn't let her mercilessly kill a council member, still not retaliating. However, when Windblade prepares to blow him away, Optimus finally retaliates by using his Energon Axe to harmlessly disarm her.
- He then tries to tell her to return to her planet to avoid a new war, but after being informed of the Enigma of Combination's presence, he agrees to help her destroy it due to the danger it poses to Cybertron, taking her to recruit Megatron in the arena. Though Megatron attacked him, Optimus tried to disuade the situation and enlist his help to save Cybertron.
- He then asked the Mistress of Flames for the enigma, promising to return to exile and take Megatron with him after the job was done, only defending himself after the council opened fire on them. However upon Devastator and Victorion's arrival, the conflict escalates to the point where the council decides to use the Enigma, but with the Mistress and Rodimus being too injured, Starscream takes it as Optimus tries to warn the council of the Seeker's true intentions. Afterwards, once Metroplex awakened, he and Megatron destroyed the Enigma and took Starscream down.
- He then stayed to oversee the restoration of Cybertron but planned to leave as to not overstay his welcome or cause disturbances, saying goodbye to Windblade and the Mistress before parting on peaceful terms.
- While he was on his way, the Matrix showed him a vision of destruction yet to come, causing him to rush back to Metroplex City and try to warn Megatron of a possible coming disaster on the way.
- After reuniting with Perceptor and finding the Mistress dead, he lamented her demise before heading with Perceptor to retrieve the Matrix so it could be returned to him, as Hot Rod had given it up. Optimus then revealed he wasn't trying to get the Matrix back and instead handed it to Perceptor so that he could get it as far away from Trypticon as possible, showing him a hidden exit before rushing back to fight Trypticon.
- As Fortress Maximus took on Trypticon, Optimus tried to convince Megatron to help in the fight and as Trypticon swallowed the Enigma of Combination and took control of all Combiners, he rushed in to fight them as a diversion. Then after Megatron joined in and Perceptor returned, tricking Trypticon into swallowing the Matrix causing him to release all he had swallowed and fall defeated.
- Afterwards Megatronus manifested and as such, Optimus worked with Fortress to try to take down the Fallen Prime before being shot through the chest and killed once more.
- His death would inspire Megatron and Windblade to take down The Fallen, not to mention his death and influence motivated Megatron to fully redeem himself and lead the effort against Megatronus.
- Later after Megatronus was defeated and Megatron sacrificed himself to kill Unicron, Optimus was brought back due to his connection to the Matrix, after which he payed his respects for Megatron and mourned the demise of his surrogate brother. He then commended Optimal Optimus and began to teach him the ways of Cybertron as the next Prime.
- Though he does have his moments such as charging at Megatron and fighting him despite Windblade's protests, it was only after he provoked him by mocking him for not killing him years ago and stating war was a part of his life and he composed himself shortly after, trying to get Megatron to join him and Windblade to take on Starscream.
- Even before the series begins, Optimus already passes by being the one who ended the war and brought about lasting peace on Cybertron, as well as redeeming Megatron. He stands out more by preserving the legacy of the Primes after entrusting the Matrix to Perceptor and preventing Megatronus from obtaining it, even at the cost of his own life. Furthermore, after his temporary demise, his influence continued to inspire Megatron, Windblade, and many others to defeat Megatronus and Overlord, ensuring the future of their race as well as motivating Megatron into sacrificing himself to defeat Unicron once and for all.
