~ Optimus Prime's closing narration. |
Optimus Prime, formerly known as Orion Pax, is the main protagonist of the 2024 animated science fiction action film Transformers One.
He is a former energon miner who eventually became the leader of the heroic Autobots and ruler of Cybertron. He was also the best friend and brother-figure of D-16, before the latter fell to a darker path and became Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, and as a result, became Optimus' arch-nemesis.
He is voiced by Chris Hemsworth in his first Pure Good role.
What makes him Pure Good?[]
- Over the second half course of the movie, he was deeply concerned for D-16's well-being after the latter found out about Sentinel's true nature.
- While Orion used to be mischievous, reckless and a bit impulsive to the point of causing trouble around Iacon as well as getting on D-16 and Elita-1's nerves, he later managed to subvert these negative qualities as he became a wiser and benevolent leader as Optimus Prime at the end of the movie, with Elita herself eventually gaining respect for him afterwards.
- Even before subverting his mischievousness, he still had everyone's best interests at heart and his impulsive actions were always done with the best of intentions.
- Gave D-16 a sticker of Megatronus Prime as a present for him.
- Even though it would break the protocol, he and D-16 did not hesitate to save Jazz from getting trapped in the mines, even using their jetpacks to get him out of the rockfall.
- While he did cause the mine to collapse, which almost killed them all and later gets Elita-1 fired by Darkwing, it was completely by accident and he tried to stick up for Elita by trying to take the blame of it.
- Tried to stand up to Darkwing after he unfairly fired Elita-1 despite D-16's warning not to.
- Although flips him off in retaliation, he was never meant to be vulgar and Darkwing was a huge jerk who always treated cogless bots like trash, making his jerkish remark on him completely justified, and the scene was only meant to be played for laughs.
- Despite being punched in the face by D-16 when he tried to pardon Darkwing over his actions, he didn't take this very badly and became grateful to D-16 for sticking up for him. Though Pax was most likely oblivious to how being punched by his friend was an early indicator that violence was already part of D-16’s personal belief system.
- While he did illegally joined the race with reluctant D-16, it was only because he wanted to prove to others that miners like him can do more than what they were made for.
- When D-16 was injured on the race, he refused to leave him behind and helped him up so they could try to win the Iacon 5000 together.
- When he and D-16 believed that Sentinel was disappointed in them with how they preformed in the race, he was ready to take full responsibility for their actions.
- After receiving a transmission from Alpha Trion before it gave the location to the surface, he, D-16 and B-127 believed this is where the Matrix of Leadership was and began their quest to find it and bring Cybertron back to its former glory.
- He held onto B-127 when he was about to be narrowly discovered by The Quintesson ship.
- After finding Alpha Trion, he gave him a small cube of energon (from B-127) to reactivate him, which lead he and his friends later discovering Sentinel's true nature and intentions as well as his betrayal of the Primes.
- When the main four are discovering Sentinel's allegiance with the Quintessons, he tells D-16, who calls him a traitor, to stand down in order to prevent them from getting caught by him and his forces. But unfortunately, Airachnid had already discovered their locations.
- Unlike D-16, who wanted to kill Sentinel for everything he did, Orion only wanted to bring him to justice instead.
- When Airachnid and her forces are coming for them, he didn’t want to leave Alpha Trion to their enemies behind, but only for him to reluctantly insist.
- Told D-16 to stop when he was going too far and about to kill Starscream, reminding him he wasn't their enemy.
- While he did kill several Trackers when they were attacking him and High Guard, it was out of self defense to protect others.
- While fighting against Airachnid and her forces, he went to protect Elita-1 from getting shot by one of the Death Trackers.
- With the help of Elita-1, he managed to rally the remaining half of High Guards to join him in their fight against Sentinel and liberate Cybertron from him.
- After reuniting with his fellow miners and tells them his journey to the surface and Sentinel's true colors, he rallied the rest of them to join with him and Elita-1 to fight back and stand up against Sentinel and liberate Cybertron from him. He even gave them a same advice that Alpha Trion gave him and his friends before.
- Before that, he punched Darkwing away to save Ironhide from getting beaten up when he tried to protests him for their endless mining shift from Sentinel's orders, which he deserves due to how he was really abusive towards the miners.
- When Elita-1 and half of the remaining High Guards were getting overwhelmed by Airachnid and her forces, he brought in the miners as reinforcements to save them.
- After the train crashes into Sentinel's towers, he saved D-16 from being held captive and getting executed by Sentinel with the help of Soundwave who freed him and other High Guard from being stasis cuffed.
- By using Airachnid's memory banks, he managed to reveal Sentinel's true colors to the rest of Iacon via live broadcast, which caused everyone to turn on and rebelling against the false Prime.
- Before that, he told Elita-1 not to break Airachnid while fighting her because they need to use her memory banks to reveal Sentinel's true colors to Cybertron without getting her broken.
- Despite everything he did, he tried to stop D-16 from killing Sentinel because it wouldn't make him any better than the false Prime. But when D-16 refused to listen and attempt to deliver a blast at him, he went out to sacrifice himself to protect Sentinel from getting shot to death, which led to him being mortally wounded.
- While one could interpret this as him denying D-16 from justifiably killing Sentinel, it was only done to prevent the former from losing his moral compass and because he did not want to restore Iacon by murdering it's previous leader and usurping his position, rather than out of the belief that Sentinel himself didn't deserve punishment.
- This action ultimately let Orion become resurrected, and was bestowed with The Matrix Of Leadership by both the Primes and Primus himself, due to his selfless and kind nature.
- After he was revived and rebranded as Optimus Prime, he went back up to the surface of Iacon to stop D-16, who was now named Megatron, and the High Guard from causing rampage in all of Iacon and later mercifully banished them from the city for their crimes and actions here.
- By the looks on his face while confronting Megatron, he only showed sadness and heartbreak over D-16's betrayal and fall into darkness instead of showing anger and disappointment at him, clearly not wanting to fight him.
- It’s also noted that during the fight, Optimus mainly performed defensive actions, showing that he was doing his best not to hurt his former friend even telling Megatron that it doesn't have to be this way.
- While he could have easily choose to behead Megatron with his axe, he instead intentionally show mercy by aiming for Megatron's fusion cannon, showing that unlike Megatron, he wasn't willing to outright murder his former best friend.
- In order to rebuild Cybertron for the better, he enlists both Elita-1 and B-127 (now known as Bumblebee) for their help as he gave the former a commander position and allowed the latter to stay in the Iacon instead of going back to the sublevel of 50.
- With the Matrix of Leadership, he managed to bring Cybertron back to its former glory, which also brought back the flow of energon to the rivers and returning back the cogs to the rest of the miners to form a heroic group known as the Autobots.
- Following the formation of the Autobots, he and the rest of them swore to protect Cybertron from any threats like the Quintessons and later the Decepticons in the future.
Trivia[]
- He and his G1 counterpart are the only versions of Optimus Prime to be Pure Good in the films, as his two live action film Counterparts don't due to being too violent/homicidal, jerkish, and having some reckless moments, thus highlighing this version’s PG status.
- He is one of the two Pure Good who appear in Transformers One, the other being Alpha Trion.
- He's the only role portrayed by Chris Hemsworth to be Pure Good.
- Ironically, Chris Hemsworth also portray Billy Lee from Bad Times at the El Royale, who's a Pure Evil.
