This article pertains to a Pure Good with more than one version who is Pure Good!

We'll have another chance to win back the Mini-Con, but we wouldn't have had another chance to save the environment.
~ Optimus' view on saving a forest at the cost of his objective.
We didn't just "link up". Our power comes from being part of a team, and working with others for the good of the universe, not just for ourselves! THAT is the Autobot way!
~ Optimus to Starscream.
You will always lose, Galvatron. You think of nothing but destruction. None of your victories last. You care about nothing, but yourself. No one cares about you. It's time to end your struggle.
~ Optimus final speech to Galvatron before ending his threat to existence for good.

Optimus Prime is the main protagonist of the Unicron Trilogy.

He is the Supreme Commander of the Autobots that frequently protects the universe from the Decepticons and Unicron.

He was voiced by Garry Chalk who also voiced Optimus Primal in Beast Wars.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • This version of Optimus is one of the best in demonstrating his compassion for all living beings and knowing when to admit his orders are wrong.

Background[]

  • As a young warrior, Optimus redeemed Scavenger and convinced him to join the Autobots and mentor him.
  • After becoming leader of the Autobots, he helped the Mini-Cons escape the Great War to never be used as pawns and hopefully end the war, though the latter ultimately didn't happen.
  • He befriended Overhaul when everyone else isolated him due to his recklessness and rescued him from a solo mission gone wrong, even apologizing for not getting there sooner.

Armada[]

  • After both sides figured out that Mini-Cons had reawakened on Earth, Optimus led Hot Shot and Red Alert to the planet and saved the human and Mini-Con protagonists from Megatron and the Decepticons.
  • He agreed to let the human kids help the Autobots, assigning Laserbeak as their protector and designing specialized suits for them to wear for protection.
  • He led the heroes in recovering the Mini-Cons, frequently turning the tide in the Autobots favor.
  • When a forest was set ablaze by the Decepticons, Optimus sacrificed the Autobots' chance to recover the Mini-Con to instead put out the fire and save the forest and its wildlife from death.
    • This action is what convinced Rad and the other humans that the Autobots weren't mere machines, but extremely compassionate, sympathetic beings leading them to be hailed as heroes.
  • He (albeit with understandable reluctance) turned over the Autobots Mini-Cons to the Decepticons in order to save Carlos and Rad's bullies, Fred and Billy, only to help rescue them and the Mini-Cons when Megatron reneged on the deal, accepting Fred and Billy as new human allies.
  • He deactivated the Autobots' security system when Fred and Billy got caught in the crossfire between it and the Decepticons soon before knocking the Star Saber out of Megatron's hands into Hot Shot's, allowing him to defeat the Decepticon invasion of the Autobot base and force them to retreat.
    • Additionally, Optimus took time to warn Hot Shot not to get too cocky after this feat.
  • He had Scavenger act as a spy within the Decepticon ranks to gain intel and stood up for him when the others still remained skeptical of his true allegiance.
  • His refusal to fire on the enslaved Decepticon Mini-Cons is what convinced them to turn on Megatron.
  • Despite being severely wounded, he charged into battle to save the other Autobots when the newly arrived Jetfire's arrogance led them into a trap, combining with Jetfire to form Jet Prime and force the Decepticons to retreat.
  • He respected the three Mini-Cons that made up the Requiem Blaster wishing to not be involved in fighting.
  • He charged Hot Shot with mentoring Autobot rookie Side Swipe.
  • Despite Starscream playing a major role in killing Smokescreen in the prior episode, Optimus accepted him into the Autobots ranks and even after he ultimately turned back later on, he hoped Starscream would rejoin the Autobots.
  • He sacrificed his life to save Earth and disassemble the Decepticons Hydra Cannon, passing down the mantle of leadership to Hot Shot.
  • After being revived, he and Galvatron killed his evil doppleganger Nemesis Prime.
  • Upon learning of the existence and threat of the Mini-Cons omnicidal creator Unicron, he tried to convince Galvatron to team up, ultimately succeeding due to Starscream sacrificing himself to convince Galvatron of the true danger of Unicron.
    • Speaking of which, he tried to prevent Starscream from sacrifcing himself and mourned his death.
  • He rejected Unicron's attempts to corrupt him.
  • After Unicron was disabled and Galvatron challenged him to a final duel, he accepted it in order to end the Great War, but ultimately saved Galvatron from falling to his death when Unicron was rewakening due to negative energy released from their battle, refusing to let go of Galvatron only for Galvatron to willingly sacrifice himself to stop Unicron and hand over leadership of the Decepticons to Optimus, having finally achieved peace.
    • Despite Unicron gaslighting him previously to try and make him think he'd be just as violent as Galvatron without the Matrix, not only did Prime prove Unicron wrong by saving Galvatron after discarding the Matrix despite having the perfect opportunity to let him die, but Prime is so remorseful over what ends up happening that he refuses to take up the Matrix again for a long time and goes into self imposed exile/journey of self-discovery.

Energon[]

  • After returning from his exile, he teams up with Dr. Brian Jones and the Earth Federation to set up Cybertronian cities on major Energon locations in Earth's solar system sensed by Brian's son Kicker, who'd been bestowed by Primus himself the ability to sense Energon concentrations.
  • He trained new Autobot recruits such as main character Ironhide.
  • 10 years after the events in Armada, Optimus leads an investigation into attacks on the Cybertronian cities and saves Ocean City and Kicker from the true culprits, the Terrorcons.
  • He evacuated all human personnel from Ocean City per Alexis' request on behalf of the Earth Federation.
  • He repelled Terrorcon attacks on several Cybertronian cities.
  • He rescued a severely wounded Hot Shot from a resurrected Megatron.
  • He figured out Alpha Q wanted to revive Unicron and led the Autobots in destroying the Decepticon base.
  • He defended Earth from Megatron's attempt to wipe it out with space comets long enough for Dr. Brian to deploy his energon grid to successfully protect the planet.
  • He led a mission out of the solar system to find Unicron and destroy him permanently to prevent either Megatron or Alpha Q from controlling him or Unicron simply becoming an independent omnicidal threat again.
  • He saved the universe by refusing to deploy an energon grid on a snowy planet with raw energon.
  • Despite his initial reluctance and refusal due to the risk, Optimus eventually agrees to help Rodimus and Alpha Q revive Unicron to restore Alpha Q's world and all those Unicron destroyed, sympathizing with Q's plight and recognizing he was a sincere, misguided anti-villain all along.
  • He led the Autobots in defending Cybertron from the Decepticons.
  • He protected Alpha Q's universe from Megatron, ultimately having Dr. Brian send over energon towers so energon grids could be established to protect the worlds.
  • He saved Inferno following his sacrifice by having his still living spark brought to Primus to be resurrected as Roadblock.
  • Although he punches Ironhide for objecting to an order in episode 37(38 if you count the undubbed “Scorponok’s Scars” episode) it was a heat-up moment that didn’t detract enough from his heroism, and he had to have apologized sooner or later.
  • He freed Shockblast from Unicron's control and despite Shockblast being a sadistic war criminal and hate sink, he grieved after Shockblast was crushed to death by a Megatron controlled Unicron.
  • In his "Optimus Supreme" form, he destroyed Unicron's physical body for good, preventing him from using it to fulfill his omnicidal ambitions.
  • With help from all the other Autobots giving their sparks of combination, Optimus and Omega Supreme combined into "Ultimate Optimus Supreme" and fought a Unicron possessed Galvatron to a standstill, being willing to sacrifice himself to end the two's threat to the universe for good before a egotistical Galvatron takes it out of his hands again and sacrifices himself and Unicron to prove no one could control him and attain a new world.

Cybertron[]

  • 10 years after Energon, he evacuated the population of Cybertron to Earth when attempts to close the Unicron Singularity failed.
  • He saved Landmine and the three human protagonists from Thundercracker.
  • Despite having a rather uncharacteristic no-interference policy (due in part to the Japanese writers isolating Cybertron’s Japanese version in its own separate continuity from the rest of the Unicron Trilogy), he abolished it upon realizing it was ironically getting in the way of his mission to save the universe.
  • Despite having a heating-up period of anger because of the aforementioned policy being disobeyed, he eventually helped ensure Hot Shot would win Velocitron's annual Planet Cup to recover the first cyber planet key and agreed to let Velocitron's leader Override join the Autobots.
  • After repeated attempts to get Scourge to hand over the Jungle Planet's cyber key failed, he agreed to Scourge's request to a duel over it, and successfully won, but he refused to kill Scourge and turned down Scourge's offer to lead the Jungle Planet.
    • This ultimately sent Scourge down the path of redemption.
  • He sacrificed all the Autobots cyber keys and the Omega Lock to save the Autobots' human allies from Starscream
  • He united all four colony world leaders and recovered all the cyber planet keys and the Omega Lock from Galvatron, successfully using it to briefly restore Primus to robot mode in order to close the Unicron Singularity and save all existence.
    • Additionally, this brought peace to Cybertron and redeemed nearly all of the Decepticons upon realizing their leader's selfish mass omnicidal ambitions.
  • After failing once more to get Galvatron to stand down peacefully, Optimus was forced to kill him to end his threat to all existence for good.
  • He led a mission to fulfill Cybertron and the other colony worlds' ancestors dream of building a universal space bridge, leaving Jetfire in command of Cybertron.
