“ | And as the Goddess of Light, it's my duty to protect humanity from her. | „ |
~ Palutena, stating her duty to stop Medusa. |
Palutena (also known as Lady Palutena by Pit) is the deuteragonist of the Kid Icarus series. She is Pit's divine superior and closest friend. She usually gives Pit some helpful hints through her divine powers whether she isn't in her own palace or being kidnapped by Hades or Medusa.
She was voiced by Ali Hillis in the English version of Uprising, Brandy Kopp in the English version of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Aya Hisakawa in the Japanese versions of all three games.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- She is always by Pit's side, offering both emotional and moral support, help and guidance during battles and missions, and is generally a really good and loyal friend to him.
- While she frequently teases Pit, it is quite clearly good-natured, friendly ribbing, and she is never actually intentionally mean or cruel to him. She also starts off with a genuine arrogant streak but has clearly overcome this after being humbled by her experiences with the Chaos Kin thus subverting them.
- She is the defender of humanity, sworn to stop Medusa and the Underworld from harming them, and she shows absolutely devotion to this job.
- She helps Pit fight off all threats to humanity, even those not related to the Underworld, such as the Forces of Nature and the Aurum, showing that her chief priority is keeping humanity safe.
- While she was trapped in the Sky Temple, Palutena mustered up the last of her powers to send Pit a bow and arrow so he could fight off the Underworld Army in her stead.
- She kept the Treasures protected by entrusting them with three guardians, so Pit would be able to obtain them after he completed his training.
- When Pit is mortally wounded as a result of overexterting the Power of Flight, Palutena assists Dark Pit in bringing Pit's body to the Rewind Spring so that they can restore his wings to their former state, granting him the same guidance, powers and flight that she normally does with Pit himself.
- She gives Pit a bow and sends him out to aid in the battle against the Subspace Army.
- During Galeem's attack, she gives Pit and Dark Pit the power of flight while willingly staying behind in an attempt to give them time to escape, though the effort ended up being in vain since the three of them all still winded up captured.
- Furthermore, it was stated by Sakurai that it was initially his plan to have Palutena be one of the only survivors of Galeem's attack alongside Kirby and Bayonetta, but later changed it to just Kirby due to him being beginner-friendly for new players. This strongly implies that Palutena was at least capable of surviving Galeem's attack but chose to stay behind and fend him off instead as a selfless attempt to give Pit and Dark a chance at survival.
