P.E.N.N.Y., also known as Penny Polendina, is a major character in the RWBY franchise. She is a robotic girl with the soul of a human. She serves as one of Team RWBY's main allies, the designated protector of Atlas and Mantle, and the Winter Maiden.
She is voiced by Taylor McNee.
What makes her Pure Good?[]
- Wants to help and protect as many people as possible and has done so multiple times.
- When she meets team RWBY for the first time, Penny was a little awkward, but created a solid friendship with Ruby and fought against Roman and the White Fang because she realized that they were menacing Ruby and her friends with clear criminal actions.
- One could say that Penny didn't have a clear picture of what exactly was going on, but she had more than enough reasons to identify Roman and the White Fang as clear criminals and acted to stop them as soon as possible, what is more than enough reasons to act.
- Prefers diplomacy over violence. When She defeated Cinder, Penny recognized that Emerald was really worried about Cinder's state and let she leave with her friend, while touched and a bit shocked seeing that even someone so evil like Cinder still had a real friend.
- Penny also tried to avoid combats against Robyn Hill at all cost because she knew that they weren't wrong about support Mantle. Even their actions being actual crimes, Robyn never used violence, what Penny respected, using indirect confrontation (by intimidation stead of brute strength) to secure the supplies to Amity Tower.
- After being framed, Penny actually avoided any situation that could elevate the stress around Mantle and remained out of the public sight, but when the Grimm invaded the city, she fought restless and saved as many lives as possible even herself still being under emotional pressure.
- Fights and destroys feral Grimm, which pose massive threat to the world at large. Indeed, Penny was the "Protector of Mantle", a job that requires being perfect to destroy waves of Grimm.
- Safeguards Relics that could be used to end the world.
- Penny never used her status (whatever it could be depending of the situation) to personal gain, because she always understood that her powers mean the responsibility to protect others. A good example is the fact that she never bargained the use of her power as the Winter Maiden knowing that it would just put people in danger. Penny always had the option to open the vault and escape free from Salem and Ironwood once both just wanted the Staff of Creation, but what they were going to do with it would put (one way or another) the lives of thousands at great risk in Mantle.
- After being infected by Watts' virus, she fought more than ever to remain in control of her body. Even with all help of her friends, Penny had the bigger load winning this internal battle against a weapon designed to overcome robotic part. Penny used all love and friendship she constructed along the time to prevent herself to lose control once and for all because she was complete aware that it would mean put the Staff of Creation in the hands of who would use it for evil proposes (what was later proved as correct).
- The exact command that the virus gave was: Open the Vault and self-terminate. 1º, given the fact that both Salem and Ironwood were looking for the Staff of Creation, that was unreachable while inside the vault, open it would just elevate the already deadly situation in Atlas making the race for the relic go to a new stage with all forces driven even further into the quest for the relic that can be reached for real. 2º, if Penny self-terminated while being under a virus control, there would be no way to have sure for whom the Winter Maiden power was going to be passed next. While the main aspect of the Maiden's powers was the ability to open the vaults, they receive a big magical power that can be easily used to overpower other persons. Raven leads a tribe of bandits and they ravage an immense forest without a worthy rival and Cinder made clear that she is in a different level from the others huntsmen and huntresses, so, if Penny had lost the control and said powers just went to a random person, the final result would be unpredictable.
- What elevated the status of that achievement is the fact that Penny fought that internal battle while being horrible hurtled by her combat against Cinder and falling back to Remnant from a satellite height, even burning back in the re-entry into the atmosphere. Even Watts, a scientist famous for his arrogance and petty behaviors, was impressed of how long she was able to resist a virus designed by him to the specific mission to control Penny based in all schemes and blueprints that Atlas had about she.
- Penny always had more in herself than her base program, example being the fact that she was chosen as the next Winter Maiden by a mystical force. The conditions are clear: Be a young woman in the last thoughts of the current Maiden. If Penny was just an A.I. or if the aura (what is the same as a spirit in universe) she had was just an echo of her fathers who gave a portion of his aura to create she, Penny would never actually be the Winter Maiden, but she was chosen and had no problem using all of her powers and abilities. When Penny gave her powers to Winter Schnee, Winter cried while stating that Penny always was a complete person and Winter Schnee herself was just a combat machine, showing the impact that Penny had in the lives of the people around her and how lovely she was remembered by others.
- She is self-sacrificing.
- Pushed herself to the point of near-death to restore communication to Remnant and spread the word about Salem and the menaces lurking around an unsuspicious planet that needed to prepare to the future fights against an enemy in their shadows.
- Took her own life to ensure Cinder Fall would not gain her powers, and to ensure they passed on to a worthy candidate.
