“ | Oke Doke! | „ |
~ Perrito's catchphrase. |
“ | You know, I've only ever had one life, but sharing it with you and Kitty made it really special. Maybe... one life... is enough? | „ |
~ Perrito as he tells Puss why having one life is enough to really live. |
Perrito is the deuteragonist of DreamWorks' 43rd full-length animated film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, a spin-off of the Shrek franchise and the sequel to Puss in Boots. He is also a minor supporting character in the short Puss in Boots: The Trident, which was released in the home release version of the aforementioned film as an extra.
He is a therapy dog that disguised himself as a cat, making him live at Mama Luna's house due to the mistake that he is actually a dog.
He is voiced by Harvey Guillén.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- While Shrek, Donkey, and Puss are more admirable in comparison, it is unfair to compare Perrito to them since they all have much more screen-time due to them being the main characters of the franchise, with Shrek and Donkey appearing in all the main movies and Puss appearing in all of them after the first, while Perrito has only appeared in one film, not to mention the difference in resources since Shrek is incredibly strong, Donkey has a wife dragon and Puss is a highly-skilled fighter, which Perrito lacks since he's just a chihuahua puppy.
- Although in the past, his former owners were very awful to him, even trying to drown him in a river, Perrito refuses to hold a grudge against them.
- His main goal in life is to be a therapy dog, meaning he wants to help people who are sad or depressed feel better.
- Wanted to make Puss happy by making him rub his belly so that he can feel better.
- After Puss lost his sword to Death, he offered him a stick as his sword.
- Wanted to give Puss therapy and even called him his best friend.
- While Puss is a jerk to Perrito as well as the fact that Kitty never trusted Perrito, he continues helping both the former and latter, this is mainly to make Puss happy and get his wish.
- He helped calm Puss down when the latter had an anxiety attack while running away from Death.
- He bonded with The Three Bears and Goldilocks despite having been kidnapped by them.
- While he acts very rude to Goldilocks and the Three Bears by unleashing a bunch of insults, including some bleeped swear words, it was unintentional since they were already insulting each other and he naively thought that by doing so, he was bonding with them, with the misunderstanding being played for comedy.
- He helped Goldilocks by telling her that she won the “orphan lottery”, which made her realize that The Bears are her true family.
- He comforted Puss when he was running from Death and tried telling him that he regretted leaving Kitty on the church just to make him and Kitty feel better.
- He told Puss that his life was pretty special whenever him and Kitty are around and even called them his best friends.
- He helped stop Big Jack Horner from stealing all of magic and causing potentially world ending damage to the Earth.
- Perrito's continued bonding with Puss and Kitty helped the both of them to agree on the decision to give up on having the Wishing Star grant their individual wishes, as they had already found what truly mattered to them during their journey together (Puss realizing the selfishness of his wish and understanding that having one life is enough, and Kitty finding someone she could trust, in the form of Puss and Perrito).
- He is the only one who can keep the Dark Forest safe as the forest is a reflection of the heart of the last person who touched the map. Thus, when he touched the map, the forest turned into a place of optimism and happiness in contrast to the other characters, who turned it into a place of toxicity and insecurity, such as with Puss' egotistical nature and Kitty's lonely nature.
- While he did help steal the town Mayor's boat at the end of the film, it's unknown whether he was aware of the wrong in doing this, as its possible that he simply didn't know that stealing was wrong or if he even knew they were stealing a boat at all.
