Peter "Pete" Kowalski is the deuteragonist of the 2006 video game Bully.
An insecure and non-clique student at Bullworth Academy, he initially acts as a punchbag for Gary Smith and Jimmy Hopkins to a lesser extent, but progressively overcomes it as he guides Jimmy as a moral compass throughout his journey of defeating the cliques and Gary to end the bullying in Bullworth Academy, effectively being Hopkins' best friend and right-hand advisor in the process.
Unlike most of the students in Bullworth Academy, including Jimmy himself, Pete possesses zero corrupting factors and only wants to have friends in a peaceful Bullworth environment. For that process, he constantly helps Jimmy and considers him a friend despite Jimmy's jerkish behavior to him most of the time, and even does not hate Gary with even considering him a friend despite Gary's heavily abusive behavior towards him.
Throughout Jimmy's journey on ending the bullying within the academy, Pete serves as the advisor of him, helping Jimmy by giving him significant ideas about how to be superior to the cliques, such as suggesting Jimmy to challenge the preppie Bif Taylor in a boxing match and defeat the nerd leader Earnest Jones to pacify the Nerds clique.
He also acts as the moral compass of Jimmy, guiding him to the side of the good and making him not forget about his true goal when Jimmy starts to suffer from egotism after declaring himself as the boss of all cliques.
During Jimmy's fight with the greaser leader Johnny Vincent, Pete helps him by getting to a magnetized crane and turning it on, causing Johnny's pipe and bike to get stuck to it and thus forcing Johnny to fight Jimmy hand to hand.
When Jimmy is about to give up and let Gary win when he is expelled from the school, Pete encourages him to not give up and convinces him to keep fighting, which ultimately motivated Jimmy to defeat Gary and save Bullworth students from the complete mayhem.
Considering his peaceful behavior, he would lead the school in a benevolent manner after being the Head Boy upon Jimmy's request.
While he seems to be ashamed of his family, such as him complaining about why his father is a librarian but not a bank robber, this is not because he is willing to aspire criminality but to mask his tragic insecurities that cover his whole life.
While he did partake in some of Gary's pranks (such as tormenting the hobo or pranks on Halloween), it is clearly something he isn't comfortable doing and only participates because Gary forces him to.
Although Jimmy sets the admirable standards as he is the one who has done most of the heroic actions, Pete still manages to pass since he lacks any of the resources Jimmy possesses (including fighting abilities, weaponry and several allies) but still helping and enabling Jimmy commit his most admirable actions with his role of moral compass. It is even apparent Pete wants to directly help Jimmy but Jimmy doesn't want his help.
