Pure Good Wiki
NOTE: This page is the only about the original 1956 Dodie Smith Book and 1961 Disney film original of Pongo as his other adaptations as of now are not voted as Pure Good, and thus only info about Pongo's 1956 book version and 1961 film original should be put here.

My story begins in London, not so very long ago. And yet so much has happened since then, that it seems more like an eternity.
~ Pongo
Perdy. We'll take them home with us. All of them. Our pets would never turn them out.
~ Pongo of the 84 puppies.

Pongo Dearly-Radcliffe-Dalmatian is the main protagonist of Disney's 17th full-length animated feature film One Hundred and One Dalmations, and a supporting character in 101 Dalmatians: The Series and the 2003 direct-to-video sequel 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure.

He is the husband of Perdita, the biological father of 15 puppies, the adoptive father of the other 84 dalmatian puppies and the paternal grandfather of Domino, Little Dipper and Oddball.

He was voiced by the late Rod Taylor in the original film, Michael Gough in the animated storybook game, Kevin Schon in the TV series, Samuel West in Patch's London Adventure, and Michael Bell in House of Mouse. He is now currently voiced by Eric Bauza since 2017.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • He cared about his wife and children and has always been considerably protective over them.
  • When his and Perdita's puppies are stolen by Cruella and two of her conspirators Jasper and Horace, Pongo decided to use the Twilight Bark to alert all the dogs in England about their stolen puppies.
  • He saves his 15 puppies from Cruella De Vil and raised the other 84 puppies.
  • Although he can be trouble-some at times, most notably when he used the Twilight Bark and playfully stealing his owner’s hat to Anita and even later tying them up which led to them to fall into a shallow water, and getting an idea out of Patch and Lucky’s argument, unlike his (step-) grandchildren in the 101 Dalmatian Street, he’s only trouble-some when needed to be.
  • Although he did tell Patch that the latter is “just one of the 101 Dalmatians,” he was only saying it in his sleep due to mishearing Patch and being stressed out over counting so many puppies.
  • He felt remorse for miscounting puppies when Patch was missing, taking responsibility for his mistake, even though it was a completely understandable one.

Trivia[]

  • He is one of two Pure Good characters in the 101 Dalmatians franchise, alongside his wife Perdita, and the only parents in a Disney animated canon to be Pure Good, along with Lady and Thomas O’Malley as well as the only one of these protagonists whose film comes with a Pure Evil villain.
    • Also, Pongo is the only protagonist of a 1960s Disney animated movie not to be Standard Good.
  • Pongo's Live-Action counterpart in 101 Dalmatians by Stephen Herek does not count as Pure Good due to lacking sentience thus lacking a Moral Agency to possess like with this original Pongo. The same goes for his appearance in Once Upon A Time and his appearance in Cruella.
