Pops Maellard (birth name, Mega Kranus) is a major character of the 2010 Cartoon Network series Regular Show, and the tritagonist of season 8. He is a naive humanoid alien lollipop from Lolliland whose adoptive father owns the park as well as the house, in which Pops shares with Mordecai and Rigby.
He was locked up and protected for most (if not all) of his childhood, which is why he takes such childlike delight in everything he sees and does. He has an evil brother who is opposite of himself as Anti-Pops (real name Malum Kranus), and they both died in the final episode.
He was voiced by Sam Marin.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Unlike other Regular Show characters, he does not display any corrupting nor anti-heroic qualities like greed, wrath, and envy.
- He is very kind to everyone he speaks to.
- This factor also rubs onto the other characters as while the other main characters often antagonize each other, they never antagonize Pops in any way.
- While he does at times display anger and irritation, he never takes it out on anyone.
- Although the episode "Prank Callers" shows that he became childish after being ran over, it's worth noting that even before being run over, he was still a polite and helpful gentleman who offered to help Mordecai and Rigby, despite never meeting them yet in the present timeline. This means that, despite his naiveteé caused by the accident, he still maintains his moral agency.
- Although he's said to be the embodiment of pure good within the universe, this does not qualify him to have moral agency issues as his brother, who's the embodiment of Evil, is shown to be capable of feeling remorse and shows care for him in his final moments, meaning that they both possess a moral agency of their own and that Pops still willingly chooses to do good.
- While he has a tendency of paying people with lollipops and candy, it isn't done out of malice or greed, but instead, out of misunderstanding as he genuinely believes that those are valid currency.
Season 1[]
- While he was upset that the birthday party wasn't for him, he showed no ill-will towards Timmy and still helped to stop the Destroyer of Worlds with Skips, Mordecai, and Rigby.
Season 2[]
- He tried to help Rigby lose his fear of taxis by inviting him and Mordecai to ride around the forest.
- It was said that he helped the chick return to its nest.
- Although he refused to give a speech for his father this was due to his stage fright, but he still wanted to do it.
- Although he later exploded at Mordecai and Rigby this was a warm-up moment, and in the end he just politely expressed why he didn't want to give the speech.
- Helped Mordecai and Rigby defeat the Hammer.
- He took the blame for running away to go watch a wrestling show to save Mordecai and Rigby from getting fired.
- Gave Skips words of encouragement after seeing him feeling down for losing to Rigby in an arm wrestling match.
Season 3[]
- When some rappers made fun of him, he defeated them in a civil manner rather than lose his nerve. Although it appears that they died during the act, it wasn't intentional from Pops' part, as he remained polite throughout the entire battle.
- He tries to make Benson not yell as much and to control his anger against his employees. Despite the disastrous consequences of this, Pops still had the best of intentions and could not foresee what would happen if Benson bottled up his anger. Regardless, he still helps him let it all loose after seeing the danger that he was posing to himself and others, subverting this potential corrupting moment.
- He offered to pay for Rigby to change his name after it was changed to Trash Boat. It should also be noted that he's the only person who didn't make fun of him for it.
Season 4[]
- He tends to forgive his friends very quickly after they do something bad to him, such as when Muscle Man accidentally dropped a bed on him or when Mordecai and Rigby accidentally destroyed the tants he got for them.
Season 8[]
- He sacrificed his own life to save the universe from Anti-Pops, and didn't show any animosity towards his brother in their last moments. During these moments, he tearfully tells Mordecai and Rigby to take care of each other and wishes them the best in the future, before dying.
