~ Ratchet.

Ratchet is one of the two titular main protagonists (alongside Clank) of the long-running video game franchise Ratchet & Clank.

He is a Lombax native from the planet Fastoon who was later sent to Veldin at a young age. He was the son of Kaden, Guardian of the Dimensionator, who was killed by Emperor Tachyon shortly after Ratchet's birth.

One day, his life was changed forever once he met a small robot named XJ-0461, but he nicknamed him Clank who would go on to become his lifelong companion, voice of reason, and best friend.

He is voiced by James Arnold Taylor in every game except the first, in which he is voiced by Mike Kelley.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • While he is very selfish and anti-heroic in the first game, he largely sheds these qualities immediately by the next game. Although he is distrustful on a couple of occasions up to Tools of Destruction, he realizes his mistake and never repeats it.

Ratchet & Clank[]

  • Battles Dr. Nefarious and his Party Crasher mech at the train station, successfully stopping him from further exploiting the Dimensionator.
  • After the explosion that damages the Dimensionator, he uses a piece of chipped Phase Quartz to create the Rift Tether, a new gadget that allows him to navigate the ensuing dimensional chaos.
  • As Ratchet uses the Rift Tether to move through the city, he also helps civilians who are caught in the dimensional rifts.
  • After catching up with Nefarious, Ratchet and Clank battle him once more in his Party Crasher mech.
  • Realizing the threat posed by Dr. Nefarious, he shoots the Phase Quartz power core of the Dimensionator, causing it to explode.

  • Out of the PS2 mascot trio, Ratchet is the only main protagonist that qualifies to be an incorruptible admirable hero, as Jak got too corrupted by the events of his sequel, and Sly's thieving ideals are flawed, making them both Inconsistently Admirable.
