Rock Lee is a supporting character in Naruto. He is a ninja who only knows taijutsu, a type of fighting style that involves using physical attacks. He is from the Hidden Leaf Village, and he is ambitious about becoming a strong ninja in spite of not being able to use ninjutsu or genjutsu as an inspiration to others who do not have those skills. He is a student of Might Guy.
He is voiced by Yōichi Masukawa in Japanese and by Brian Donovan in English.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- While he's enthusiastic about fighting, Rock Lee is never shown to be sadistic and doesn't enjoy hurting others during his various battles. In fact, he always shows respect towards his opponents and believes strongly in fighting fair.
- Though constantly put down as a nobody and belittled by Neji for never being able to become an exceptional shinobi, Lee never gave up on his dream and trained tirelessly to work hard and become stronger.
- He cries and apologizes to Guy for using the Inner Gates against Sasuke during their match despite Guy saying to only use it when the lives of important people were in danger.
- Even after Sakura rejected his love and insulted his appearance, Lee does not hesitate to help her during the Chunin Exams by protecting her, and by extension, Naruto and Sasuke while they're unconscious, from the Hidden Sound Village ninja trio consisting of Dosu, Zaku and Kin, who were sent to kill Sasuke. He both willingly takes them on alone and even used the Inner Lotus during the battle, seriously exhausting him and leaving him at the mercy of his enemies.
- Though he initially belittles Sasuke during their first encounter due to his superior taijutsu, after seeing Sasuke's performance against Gaara, he humbly accepts to himself that Sasuke had gained speed and taijutsu equal to his own, demonstrating he's capable of accepting his own shortcomings and those who are superior to him.
- He thanks Sakura for the flowers and her support when he's injured.
- When Guy tells him to get the operation and says he will die alongside Lee if anything goes wrong, Lee bursts into tears and hugs Guy in gratitude.
- After his treatment by Tsunade, Lee goes out of his way to help Naruto against Kimimaro despite not having fully recovered, saving him from being killed and holding Kimimaro off so that Naruto could go after Sasuke.
- Despite Gaara crippling him during the Chunin Exams and seemingly destroying his dreams of being a powerful ninja, when Rock Lee was treated by Tsunade, he forgives Gaara and attempts to fight alongside him against Kimimaro.
- He, along with several other shinobi, destroyed a large meteor which would've obliterated the Hidden Leaf Village.
- Despite his conflicts with Neji, Rock Lee was always respectful of him.
- Rock Lee inspired Tenten to work hard towards her dream of being a strong kunoichi by seeing his remarkable dedication.
- Even though Sakura did not return his affections, he respected her decision and stayed true to his word of defending her with his life, which won her respect and was a huge inspiration for her gradually developing into a more mature, kind, selfless and responsible person.
- He lacks corrupting factors and is shown to be honest and honorable to his team and those around him.
