| “ | May the stars shine down upon you. | „ |
| ~ Rosalina's most famous quote. |
Rosalina (Japanese: ロゼッタ, Rosetta) is a major character in Nintendo's Super Mario franchise, being the overarching protagonist of the Galaxy duology.
She is a cosmic traveller who pilots the Comet Observatory across the universe, looking after the Lumas as they grow up to become stars in an endless cycle. Despite her ethereal role, she sometimes joins Mario and his friends on their adventures, such as helping them defeat Bowser and Cursa.
She was voiced by Mercedes Rose from 2007-10, Kerri Kane from 2011-18, and currently by Laura Faye Smith since 2013.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- She willingly adopted the Lumas when they failed to find their real mother, and would later adopt other orphaned Lumas into her family.
- Even when she doesn't directly engage in battle with Mario, she still provides Mario a lot of assistance more resourcefully, such as by flying him to the center of the galaxy where Bowser is after he helps her restore power to the Comet Observatory.
- She has made it her mission to protect the cosmos from any incoming threats such as Bowser or Cursa.
- She helps Mario and friends collect Green Stars in 3D World after she's unlocked in the extra part of the game by beating the Super Galaxy level.
- She protects the Lumas and Rabbids from Cursa's attack, causing it to possess her.
- Despite Cursa's best attempts, she never relents to its influences, always holding out hope that Mario and his team will stop it.
- She temporarily frees herself from Cursa's grasp in order to provide an escape route for Mario's team when it catches up with them.
- After being properly freed by Mario's team, she helps them destroy Cursa (and the MegaBug's presence by extension) for good, even landing the final blow on it.
- She restores the Sparks that were seemingly killed by Cursa.
- She offers Rabbid Rosalina and Edge to stay for a while on her Comet Observatory after Cursa's defeat.
- Initially referring Bowser as “an evil monster” in the instances he stole the Lumas’ Power Stars, she shows no ill will towards Bowser when addressing him after Cursa’s defeat, acknowledging his role in defeating the villain.
- Despite remaining serious, she never darkens the mood in the slightest as she always speaks in a kind, calm and wise manner.
- Unlike the other Mario characters who have or used to have corrupting factors, she displays no corrupting factors at any point in any of the games and is one of the most mature and serious characters in the franchise.
Trivia[]
- In August 2022, Rosalina was temporarily stripped of her Pure Good status and rescaled to Heroic Benchmark as it was believed that she relied too much on implied heroism. Following the release of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope however, Rosalina demonstrated heroic deeds that debunked these theories and interest was raised to re-evaluate her standing following these findings. As a result, she was reproposed and subsequently restored to her Pure Good status in December.
- Her movie counterpart might also qualify as Pure Good.
