Ruby Gillman, better known as Ruby, is the titular main protagonist of DreamWorks 44th animated full-length film, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.
She is a 16-year-old kraken that wanted to become a normal teenager to fit in at Oceanside while also wanting to know her powers from her grandmother.
She is voiced by Lana Condor.
What Makes Her Pure Good?[]
- Despite her rivalry with her younger brother Sam, she genuinely cares for him and all of their squabbles are only played for laughs.
- She wanted to become a normal teenager just to fit in as well as to have friends on her own.
- She was concerned and didn’t want to continue lying to people about her being from Canada or a human.
- She rescued Connor when he was drowning in the ocean.
- While she did destroy a library, this was by accident as she felt guilt for it and didn't know since she was experiencing her transformation at the time.
- She calls her mother out for keeping the kraken powers and her royal family a secret from her.
- She apologized to Chelsea for leaving her at the ocean after the latter saved her from being captured by Gordon.
- She went to the ocean underwater to find out about herself and her family.
- She wanted her grandmother to teach her about her powers she has so she could further train herself to help others.
- Despite her mother keeping her wealthy family including a princess as a secret, she never holds a grudge against her.
- She sympathized with Chelsea when the latter revealed that her mother was killed when the latter’s mother was trying to get the Trident back.
- She wanted to make peace between The Krakens and Mermaids unlike her grandmother or mother.
- She felt guilty for accidentally helping Chelsea/Nerissa by bringing back the Trident of Oceanus, even though she didn’t know that it was the mermaid queen herself.
- She and her family went to stop Chelsea from taking over the oceans.
- She saved everyone, including both her friends and her brother from Nerissa.
- She tried to reason with Nerissa as well as giving her a chance by convincing her to give the trident to her despite the latter having done nothing but tricked and betrayed her.
- She, along with her mother Agatha and grandmother Grandmamah, destroyed the trident and defeated Nerissa.
- She stopped her grandmother on wanting to kill (and cook) Nerissa, thus sparing her despite everything the latter had put her through.
- She forgives her mom after she apologizes for not trusting her with the truth sooner.
- She apologized to her friends for abandoning them and not telling them the truth about her.
- She accepted her role as heir, despite not wanting to.
- While she can be serious sometimes, she never darkens the mood of the story.
