~ Ryunosuke telling Gregson he doesn't care about making enemies of the british government if it means proving Gina innocent. |
Ryunosuke Naruhodo is the main protagonist of the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. He is the former best friend of Kazuma Asogi, until Naruhodo had to take his place on the educational trip to London due to an unfortunate accident which then leads to Naruhodo meeting Kazuma's adoptive sister, Susato Mikotoba who becomes Naruhodo's judicial assistant for the majority of the duology.
He was voiced by Hiro Shimono in the Japanese version and Mark Ota in the English localisation.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- After hearing that Kazuma would not be allowed to go to London if he failed to prove him 'Not Guilty' and being offered the chance to defend himself by the judge, Ryunosuke decided to defend himself despite having no attorney experience so that Kazuma would not have his dream taken away from him if he happened to fail. Despite the fact Kazuma was his assistant, Kazuma chose to do that himself instead of Naruhodo asking him, showing he was thinking solely about Asogi's well being and not his own.
- He managed to expose Jezaille Brett for her murder of John Wilson.
- Despite Susato and everyone else accusing him of murder while on the ship, Ryunosuke held no grudges against them as he knew it was the only logical way the crime could be committed at the time and after the case was done, he forgave Nikolina despite not admitting her crime was just an accident for selfish reasons.
- After they both prove that Nikolina was the culprit behind Kazuma's accidental murder, despite Susato telling her that she would have to carry the guilt of his murder for the rest of her life, neither she or Naruhodo held a grudge against her and just accepted that it was an accident despite Kazuma being Susato's brother and Ryunosuke's best friend and they both wanted her to be released after it was proved Kazuma didn't die.
- He decided to take Kazuma's role as a defense attorney after his "death" so he could carry on Kazuma's goal through proxy inheriting his sword and armband. Despite feeling anxious towards blades, he still kept Kazuma's sword around as he considered it 'not a sword but part of Kazuma's soul'.
- Despite Soseki getting a lot of hatred for seemingly assaulting a woman named Olive Green and also got accused for being a Japanese man, Naruhodo and Susato were the only ones who believed in his innocence till the end and despite the fact he was accused of another crime, they both still defended him in that one too as they still believed he was innocent.
- After noticing Gina was gone, they decided to look for her after they heard a gunshot at the pawnshop and after they arrived, one of the burglars shot Sholmes so Susato tended to him to make sure he was ok and Naruhodo chased after the burglars. While he was out, Susato made a hole in the backdoor so she could see if Gina was inside and she noticed that she was but went back to making Sholmes was ok straight after.
- Despite Gina not treating him well, he was still relentless in getting her defense approval until he finally got it and decided to defend her in court despite not having Susato by his side to help.
- During the trial, after it was revealed that McGilded (a guilty client of Ryunosuke and Susato that got acquitted after tampering with evidence) was guilty of his murder and that Naruhodo unknowingly used forged evidence to acquit him. Naruhodo decided to accept his punishment but said that it should be discussed after he had proven Gina's innocence and the trial was over.
- He also ends up forcing Gregson to admit to telling Ashley Graydon important information that led to him knowing about the gap in the door at the pawnbrokery, despite Gregson telling him he could potentially create enemies with the British government, Naruhodo didn't care and played the morse code anyway which finally forces Gregson to admit to helping Graydon with information and Gina's innocence is subsequently proven after Graydon admits to the crime.
- Bringing the secrets to light also prevented London from suffering a societal collapse due to the secrets being very sensitive information, meaning that Naruhodo likely saved many lives by doing this.
- When Susato felt great guilt over tampering with the crime scene and considered giving up on being a legal assistant, Naruhodo let her know that because she tampered with the crime scene, it allowed him to prove Gina's innocence and expose Graydon as the culprit, which Susato thanked him for as she told him he saved her from making the wrong decision.
- He exposes Enoch Drebber and Courtney Sithe in court for the murder of Odie Asman and clears Albert Harebrayne's name alongside Susato.
- He and Susato decided to defend Barok after he is accused of murder despite his extreme racism towards both of them as they believe he is innocent.
- He convinced Maria Gorey to add the time of death in Tobias Gregson's autopsy.
- He along with Barok, saved Kazuma from becoming a vengeful prosecutor who wanted Barok at the very least imprisoned or even worse executed on the slight implication that he had killed his father which made Asogi realise his bias and then decided to help them prove who the real culprit was.
- He is the one who was the most involved when it came to solving the "Real" Professor case after many people believed Genshin Asogi was the murderer and was the one who proved that Klint Van Zieks was the true professor which ended London's racism towards the Japanese as the two countries had a bad relationship due to The Professor seemingly being a Japanese serial killer.
- He, Susato, and Herlock all fixed London's corrupt legal system by stopping Mael Stronghart who was the leader behind the "Reaper of the Bailey" which was responsible for over 20 deaths and stopped Stronghart's assassin exchange in the process.
- Even if it meant leaving behind Kazuma and all the friends he had made in London, Ryunosuke decided to return to Japan with Yujin Mikotoba due to Japan's severe lacking of defense attorneys.
- Before he left for London, Susato asked if she could come with Naruhodo despite being a 'terribly incompetent legal assistant' but Naruhodo decided to let her come with him and said that 'he was the one that's incompetent' and he took Karuma off Kazuma after Kazuma wanted him to take it so he wouldn't kill anyone with it.
- After returning to Japan, he and Susato start their own law firm in an attempt to help Japan's legal system improve.
