Mistress, the human world is full of vulgarity, idiots and ugliness, but, mistress, even with all of that, I still can smile.
~ Schieke's first avaliation of the human world after joining Guts's party.

Schierke is a supporting character from the manga Berserk.

She is a young lady who studied magic under the guide of her mistress, and lived peacefully far from civilization, being educated in a house deep within a forest. But this all would change once the Great Roar of the Astral World was unleashed and she crossed paths with Guts's gang.

What makes her Pure Good?[]

  • While initially reluctant of going on a new journey wiith Guts's gang, she eventually agrees to help them under her mistress's advice, joining Guts, Isidro, Farnese and Serpico to protect a village from being attacked by ravenous trolls, providing her partners with elemental weapons for each of them, including Guts, although he did not accept it due to preferring the DragonSlayer.
  • She plays a very important role in washing away the monsters invading the village by summoning the Spirit of Deep Waters after the people were safe inside a Church.
  • After the village is saved by the gang, she is praised by the crowd and asks for a priest of the Church if it is possible to build a fountain on the village in order to appease and honor the spirits, to which he agrees.
  • She helps Guts during his battle against Grunbeld by telepathically telling him the location of the Berserker Armor, allowing the gang to finally escape the apostles.
  • Once the gang arrives at Vritanis looking for a boat, she spends some time by herself due to being annoyed by Isidro, where she ends up finding dozens of deceased Kushan slaves who were hanged and whose souls could not find peace; upon seeing that, she has the bodies cremated and their souls put to rest.
  • Although she behaved antagonistically towards Isidro, once the latter arrives to help defend her from pirates, she thanks him and forgives him for insulting her hat.
  • She agrees to change her clothes to avoid suspicions while in Vritanis and merely gets embarassed when Isidro remarks no one could tell from her disguise that she is a powerful witch, showing she is humble.
  • She agrees to teach magic to Farnese, including astral projection and the Formation of the Four Cardinal Points, both of which would come in handy later.
  • When the gang is looking for their boat while the Kushans invaded Vitranis, she summons the Blazing Wheel to dispatch of the cannon-fodder demonic beasts.
  • She astral projects into Guts Armor in order to guide him in his battle against Dhaiva, potentially saving his life. The way she does this is by interfering with Guts's Od and positioning him above the Axis of Power, thus preventing him from being completely consumed by the Beast of Darkness.
  • She summons the Blazing Wheel after Guts finds a spot to attack the Kundalini, a beast of water summoned by Dhaiva, defeating Dhaiva with Guts, at least for the time being.
  • Once Guts and Zodd team up to attack Emperor Ganishka, she telepathically tells the Black Swordsman that he shoud aim the strike between the eyes, thus defeating Ganishka temporarily.
  • Schierke draws magic seals on Guts's sacrificial mark in order to soothe the pain he feels once the apostles are near.
  • After Guts's party gets on the boat and ends up being attacked by sea creatures, Schierke asks Farnese to use the Formation of the Four Cardinal Points so that their boat can have protection from spiritual attacks.
  • She often puts her own safety in risk by astral projecting into Guts's armor so he can regain control, failing only when she is very tired. Examples of this include the afore-mentioned battle with the Kundalini and, later on, during the battle against the Sea God, she aids Guts as much as she can, and then tells a disoriented Guts where is the heart of the Sea God so that the creature can be killed for good.
  • Once the gang arrives at Elfhelm Island, she eagerly tell the mages there that they are here to heal Casca's mind, smiling at Guts, to which he smiles back, which is notable, considering Guts rarely, if ever, smiles of joy, given what he had to go through.
  • She and Farnese are guided by Dannan to a room full of mushrooms and spiritual energy where they go into deep slumber together with Casca so that they can link their minds with that of Casca and heal her trauma.
  • Once she and Farnese enter Casca's mind, a desolate, dark land, full of apostle-like monsters, Schierke, Farnese and a Guts-like dog go on finding pieces of a broken Casca doll, the latter of which symbolizes Casca's broken mind. In order to find the last piece, they come into clash with a bird-like monster with large, black wings that summons an army of apostle-like monsters. Here, Schierke would be essential to turn the fight to their advantage, summoning the Spirit of Deep Waters, Golems, the Blazing Wheel and the Spirit of Decomposition which would help fend off the enemies for some time. Then, the spirit of her mistress isolates the monsters for good, except the bird-like creature, and Schierke is hesitant to piece together the last fragment of Casca's mind, but Farnese convinces her that they might not have another chance. Once Casca wakes up, Schierke remarks that her Od is very different from before and says she is pleased to finally meet her.
