Shin Asuka is the main protagonist of the 1997 Tokusatsu series, Ultraman Dyna, the 13th installment in the Ultraman franchise. He is the son and human host of Kazuma Asuka aka Ultraman Dyna, as well as a member of Super GUTS.
What Makes Him Pure Good[]
In General[]
- Initially the first two episodes, he originally didn’t want to be Dyna as he felt there was no reason for it. However, by the end of the second episode, he eventually came to realize that he didn’t need one and that since he had the power to protect people, he was morally obligated to fight as Earth’s protector.
- While it’s true he did start off with a lot of Mitagating factors (hot headedness, recklessness, arrogance, childishness), he eventually subverted them after defeating the Gransphere during the finale. In fact by the time, he reappeared in Origin Saga, he essentially served as Orb’s mentor, with him often giving him advice in order to help him become a proper hero.
Background[]
- After leaving his old high school baseball team, he later joined the TPC as a maintenance worker.
Ultraman Tiga: The Final Odyssey[]
- as Daigo Madoka and his wife Rena Yanase were about to aboard a space shuttle to mars, he briefly saluted them upon walking by them.
Ultraman Dyna (Episodes 1-26)[]
As himself[]
- After leaving the maintenance crew, he temporarily joined the TPC’s Air Force Squad ZERO
- During his training, he briefly managed to save Ryo Yumimura when they were getting attacked by a group of Spheres. Because of this, he eventually became recruited as a member of Super GUTS.
- While fighting against Darambia, he briefly went to check on Kohda after the former shot his plane down.
- As Hibiki, Kohda, and Nakajima were fighting against a group of spheres in space, he requested Hibiki if he could fight with Ryo on Earth and stop Giralen After a reckless attack on Grossyna resulted in Hibiki getting injured, he immediately felt remorse, even going to the infirmary the next day to leave him some flowers.
- Upon realizing that Tachibana was gonna unintentionally Daigerun by turning on the pw waves, he briefly attempted to stop him. Once this failed, he immediately began trying to escort them out the building they were in so that they wouldn’t get killed.
- While stuck inside of building, he briefly comforted Tachina’s assistant as she was crying before later encouraging the two to not give up
- Despite initially not wanting to at first, he eventually agreed to take Mai to go see a famous baseball player/his old friend named Himuru Yuusaku after she kept on begging.
- Upon noticing was around while he was fighting against Sildron, he immediately began hiding him before advising him to get to safety
- By the end of episode 4, he managed to help Himuru get gain back some of his confidence he needed to win a current baseball tournament that he was apart of.
- Upon noticing that a seeingly “normal” civilian was walking by near Forgas, he briefly tried advising him to evacuate Upon being offered by Forgas the chance to join him and destroy humanity, he rejected it
- When Forgas started expressing his belief that humanity was at the end of their evolution, he responded to him by admitting that he still had faith in them, as well as their light.
- Upon witnessing Alien Dias seemingly attempt to kill a little girl named Yuka, he instantly fought him and smashed him over the head with chair, knocking him out completely Following this, he later brought him back to Super GUTS hq to be interrogated.
- Before going in to fight Gyabish as Dyna, he briefly took the time to honor Alien Dias’ final wish to give his pedant of his late daughter to Yuka, whom she happened to have resembled Near the end of episode 7, he encouraged Yuka to make friends and not try to fight things alone, even bringing up how Dyna was able to defeat Gyabish because of her.
- During the beginning of episode 8, he helped his crew mates wake a bunch of villagers who had passed out after a meteorite crashed in their area
- During the climax of episode 8, he managed to lure Bao-on away from a nearby city
- While investigating a mysterious planet, he managed to befriend a Mukkito Upon seeing the Mukitto creature help him retrieve his transformation item, he briefly expressed gratitude towards him before transforming into Dyna.
- Following Mons-agar’s defeat,, he later named the Mukitto created Hanejiro after helping him escape the dying planet.
- Upon seeing Himala in person while patrolling the streets, he instantly began going after him to try and stop him stealing more towns.
- Upon hearing Himala admit his selfish desire to steal the towns on Earth he considered beautiful, he angrily called him out on it, rightfully pointing out that they belonged to the people of Earth.
- Despite doubting Takeshi’s claim that he was being chased by aliens, he still chose to go investigate and help him as he felt he was obligated to do so.
- While at the monster factory with Takeshi, he managed to protect him from the three Mijir aliens Dolchenko, Udochenko, and KamachenkoFollowing this, he later managed to get Takeshi to safety while the three Mijir aliens were trying to kill him in their Garaon By the end of episode 13, he managed to teach Takeshi a lesson about being honest, with him encouraging him to not lie anymore as it was his constant lying that made the people not believe him when he claimed their were aliens in the monster factory.
- Near the climax of episode 14, him and Ryo managed to break Mia out of Alien Krea Shion’s influence
- Upon discovering that Professor Otomo had kidnapped Hanejiro on a remote island, he instantly made its his mission to go rescue him
- During the climax of episode 16, he managed to help Nakajima, Katrina, amd Hanejiro escape from Professor Otomo’s laboratory.
- In episode 17, him and Kohda went inside Zombayu to go rescue the souls he had devoured.
- While the streets at night near a high school with Ryo, the two of them briefly managed to save girl from getting abducted by Bishmel During the climax of episode 18, he managed to help Erika Honjou, Mizuki Kuno, Saya Nagase, and Yuki Hirokawa realize that Bishmel was evil and that he was simply using their anger to become more powerful Following this, he later had them get to safety while he transformed into Dyna In episode 19, he spent the majority of it trying to help Mayumi cope with the loss of her boyfriend Takuma by trying to defeat Kokakuchi, that way she wouldn’t have to witness another tragedy in the same location where Takuma died.
- Upon realizing that Alien Boy was innocent and that he was simply trying (and failing to leave Earth) and that Super GUTS was about to attack him, he immediately began contacting his crew mates to try and tell them to cancel it.
- By luring away Dipras with Super GUTS’ submarine, he managed to help Kohda rescue the remaining survivors that were inside underwater facility Triton-J2 Upon discovering that the algae creatures the scientists had killed them, him and Ryo quickly went to one of the surviving scientists friends so that they could save him.
As Dyna[]
- In episode 1-2, he stopped a bunch of Spheres from attacking TPC’s mars and Earth base.
- In episode 2, he defeated Daramabia and Giralen.
- In episode 3, he defeated Cyclometra and Grossyna. By doing this he managed to prevent the former from blowing up Earth (from inside the latter) and spreading its babies to other planets to repeat the same process. Additionally, before the fight, he managed to save Captain Hibiki from crashing his plane after Grossyna shot it down.
- In episode 4, he defeated Daigerun, preventing him from potential eating any humans.
- In episode 5, he defeated Sildron.
- In episode 6, he defeated Forgas. By doing this, he managed to prevent him from destroying humanity and spreading himself across Earth
- In episode 7, he defeated Gyabish.
- In episode 8, he managed to help Bao-On return to space and prevent him from causing a bunch of villagers to fall asleep from its noise. Additionally, he also prevented Bao-On from unintentionally killing Dr. Mustafa Ali.
- In episode 9, he defeated Giagurd and stopped from stealing Earth’s electricity.
- In episode 10, he defeated Dexador.
- In episode 11, he defeated Mons-AgarAdditionally, he also managed to help Hanejiro escape, resulting in him becoming the pet mascot of Super GUTS.
- In episode 12, he managed to defeat Hamela and help return all the towns that he had stolen.
- In episode 13, he managed to defeat Dolchenko, Udochenko, and Kamachenko and stop them from conquering Earth
- In episode 14, he managed to defeat Alien Nuaza Eshilis and stop him from conquering the universe and crashing the moon into Earth.
- In episode 15, he defeated Gyanzer, preventing him from destroying Super GUTS base.
- In episode 16, he defeated Neosaurus.
- In episode 17, he managed to defeat Zombayu and return the souls he had devoured back to the living (most notably Ryo). Additionally, by doing this, he ultimately prevented him from continuing this to other life forms.
- In episode 18, he defeated Bishmel.
- In episode 19, he defeated Kokakuchu.
- In episode 20, he managed to save Alien Lasesta Satoru Kishi from crashing into power lines and help him escort him into Space so that he could start his search for a new planet Additionally, during the end of the episode, he reassured him that the future was for him to decide.
- In episode 21, he helped Sodom return underground.
- In episode 22, he defeated Muzoi In addition to this, he also managed to save Ryo as she was about to be crushed.
- In episode 23, he defeated Dipras.
- In episode 24, he defeated Maricula.

Ultraman Tiga & Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light[]
As Dyna[]
- During the prologue, he managed to save Ryo from Geranda
- Near the climax, he once again managed to defeat Deathfacer and save Ryo With the help of Tiga (and by extension humanity), he was ultimately able to defeat Queen Monera and stop her from wiping out humanity.
Ultraman Dyna (Episodes 27-47)[]
As Himself[]
- When Rai started panicking over the possible of being targeted by the chern aliens, he reassured her that she was gonna be fine. By the end of episode 27, he managed to help a group of kids become friends by teaching them about baseball
- In episode 28, he defended a female Gigantes primate when a man Sou attempted to attack her, even going so far as to rescue her when he captured her so that the Male Gigantes would stop his rampage.
- Upon discovering that he had been assigned to fly the Plasma 100 (a prototype spaceship used for breaking the speed of light plane his father had rode before disappearing into light), he instantly agreed to do it to honor him.
- During the climax of episode 29, he ultimately managed to go fly the Plasma 100 successfully (without passing out) and use it to destroy a comet that was about to collide with Earth
- Upon learning that Kohda was willing to sacrifice Captain Hibiki in order to defeat Bazob (whom was holding Hibiki hostage inside of him), he immediately went to confront the monster himself so that Hibiki wouldn’t die. Despite this though, after defeating Bazob and saving Hibiki as Dyna, he later apologized to Kohda after he learning the stress he was going through when he was forced with choosing whether or not he would have to sacrifice Hibiki.
- During Yumenokatamari’s rampage in episode 37, he briefly managed to help two garbage men evacuate to safety
- Upon learning that Kenji sudo had blamed him for failing to save his brother during the sphere’s first attack, he eventually expressed remorse for it. (despite the fact it wasn’t his fault). In fact, later in the episode, while flying with Kenji to go find Hiroyuki Yamazaki, he briefly pondered whether or not it was him who was meant to become Dyna.
- Despite the fact that it was Kenji who caused him to lose Hiroyuki Yamazaki, he still went out of his way to take the blame for it when he was explaining it to Captain Hibiki. Following this, he later went with Kenji in order to make up for it and stop him.
- While fighting against Zomborg’s soldiers, he briefly gave Kenji his transformation item as a symbol of hope.
- Earlier in episode 40, him and Konda saved Nakajima and his colleague Noriko from a bunch of Zombiefied villagers.
- During the climax of episode 40, he briefly saved a random civilian that was being attacked by Alien Jagira’s vines.
- With the help of his crew mates , he managed to help a bunch of kids who were trapped on a space ship Gazelle get back to Earth
- In episode 43, him and Hibiki managed to help Haruna bring her three siblings get to safety during Golza II’s rampage.
As Dyna[]
- In episode 27, he defeated Demagorg
- In episode 28, he allowed the male Gigantis to beat him so that he could impress a female member of his kind.
- In episode 29, he defeated Gaigaraid
- In episode 30, he defeated the Miji aliens and their Gaoron yet again
- In episode 31, he defeated Gregore-ManAdditionally, during the fight, he briefly used himself as a shield in front of a bunch of humans when Gregore attempted to kill them for cheering on Dyna instead of him.
- In episode 33, him and Captain Hibiki defeated Alien Naltis and her monster Menorfa. By doing this, the two ultimately able to prevented her from using it to destroy humanity. Additionally, following this, he later returned the negative emotions to the teenagers that Menorfa had fed on in order to become big
- In episode 34, him, Nakajima and Mai defeated Bazob. In addition to this, him and the other two were also able to rescue Captain Hibiki from Bazob’s stomach.
- In episode 36, him, GUTS (sans Rena, Diego, Iruma) and Super GUTS defeated Geomos/Neo-Geomos
- In episode 37, he defeated Yumenokatamari
- In episode 38, he defeated Bundar
- In episode 39, he defeated Hiroyuki Yamazaki/Zomborg and stopped him from dropping a warhead (containing Evolu cells) on Earth. Because of this, he ultimately prevented humanity from being turned into monsters. Following Zomborg’s defeat, he later brought Kenju Sudo back to Earth
- In episode 40, he defeated Alien Jagira. By doing this, he ultimately managed to stop him from enslaving humanity and conquering Earth Additionally, during the battle, he also rescued Noriko, Nakajima’s colleague, specifically by pulling her out of Jagira after Nakajima blasted a hole through his chest.
- In episode 41, he defeated Daiorius and helped Kariya, the captain of the Gazelle and Shinji escape back to Earth
- In episode 43, he defeated Golza II and saved Captain Hibiki
- In episode 44, he defeated Graikis
- In episode 45, he and Kiyata defeated Torongar Additionally, he also saved Kariya from dying as their plane was crashing from being shot down
- In episode 46, he defeated Moravia and saved Kiraya from getting killed
- In episode 47, he freed a member of the Firas aliens from the demon stone’s influence

- During the beginning, he saved Ryo from getting killed by Arwo During the climax, he defeated One-Z.
Ultraman Dyna (Episodes 48-51)[]
As Himself[]
- While talking to Ryo about his father, he later admitted to believing he was still alive and that he would one day come back.
- Upon being rescued by Ryo near the climax of episode 49, he instantly started apologizing to her (and by extension the rest of his crew mates) for keeping his identity as Dyna a secret
- Despite getting most of his energy taken at the end of episode 49, he still chose to transform into Dyna so that he could stop Terranoid/Zelganoid
- Upon being rescued by Daigo, he immediately started thanking him the next day
- Upon rescuing Ryo from Neo-Gaigaraid, he immediately brought her back to Super-GUTS’s ship
- While talking to his crew mates about Gransphere, he revealed that before Gransphere was able to reform its barrier, he briefly saw its core that it had left open. Because of this, it helped his crew mates realize that there was a chance to defeat it.
- When asked by Captain Hibiki why he chose to keep his identity as Dyna a secret and bare the burden on his own, he admitted that even though he was a show-off, he was also shy.
- While preparing to fight against Gransphere, he briefly admitted to Ryo that the reason he didn’t reveal his identity to Super GUTS was that he didn’t them to be scared of him.
- Upon being asked by Ryo why he kept on going on, he replied by saying he was human and that his dad had thought him that humans had the capability and power to go forward.
- Before going to fight against Gransphere, he briefly thanked Mai for coming up with Dyna’s name
- By choosing to transform into Dyna and fight against Gransphere, he essentially pulled a self sacrifice as the result of destroying it ultimately led to him being sucked into a wormhole straight into another universe. Despite this, though, because his act saved the universe, he was ultimately remembered as hero, even getting a memorial for him (as shown in Ultraman Saga).
As Dyna[]
- In episode 48, he helped Mogedon return to space after Hayate and Alien Chadabin were able to remove Ndamoshite X from its body
- In episode 49, he defeated Terranoid/Zelganoid
- in episode 50, he defeated Neo-Gaigaraid and helped Ryo escape from Gransphere
- In episode 51, him and Super-GUTS defeated Gransphere and bring back all the planets that it sucked into Darkness. As a result of this, he ultimately prevented the spheres from assimilating the universe.
Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends The Movie[]
- Upon entering the World of Land of light universe, the first thing he did was rescue the Pendragon crew from Alien Zetton and his monster Narse (the former as himself and the latter as Dyna). Because of this, they were ultimately to get to monster graveyard and help Rei snap out of his burst mode and help the Ultra brothers and Zero defeat Belial
- Before transforming to fight Narse, he briefly began introducing himself to the crew of the pendragon after defeating Alien Zetton (mainly so they would have some context as to he was).
- Upon hearing that Pendragon crew’s friend Rei was at the mosnter graveyard and that he was in trouble, he instantly began traveling with them to go help them save him.
- Upon entering the monster graveyard, he immediately began taking on Belial himself while the Pendragon crew dealt with Rei.
- In the climax, he assisted the Ultra brothers and the pendragon crew in blasting apart Belyuruda while Zero dealt the finale blow to Belial. By doing this, Zero was later able to return the plasma spark back to the land of light and prevent it and the Ultras who were frozen from dying.
Ultraman Saga[]
As Dyna[]
- During the beginning of the film, he defeated Earthron
- Upon meeting Team-U after defeating Earthron, he briefly gave them a thumbs up to reassure them he was on their side.
- Prior to Zero and Cosmos’s arrival, he at one point sacrificed himself by going into Hyper Zetton’s egg to prevent its birth and to prevent it from being used to destroy humanity.
- By merging with Zero and Cosmos, the three were ultimately able to become Ultraman Saga.
As Saga[]
- With the help of Team U, him, Zero, and Cosmos were ultimately able to defeat Alien Bat and Hyper Zetton and stop the former from wiping all life throughout the multiverse. In addition to this, they were ultimately able to rescue the billions of humans that he had kidnapped and help them reunite with the kids that were in the care of Team U.
As Himself[]
- Upon transforming back into himself after defeating Earthron, he later joined forces with E.D.F. Team U in order to try and take down Alien Bat.
- During his team U, he briefly began hanging out with the children that were in their care
- During the climax, after loosing to Hyper Zetton, him and Upon helping Zero and cosmos defeat Alien Bat, he briefly went out of his way to reunite with his old crew mates again to say hi.
Ultraman Ginga[]
- Prior to the series, he (as Dyna) participated in the Dark Spark to try help the Ultras from the other universes defeat Lugiel.
Ultraman Ginga S The Movie: Showdown! The 10 Ultra Warriors![]
- After being freed from Etelgar’s mirror by UPG and Musashi, he (as Dyna) alongside Tiga, Gaia,Nexus, Max, Mebius, and Zero later donated their power to Hikaru so that he could transform into Ginga victory with Shou
- During the climax, him, Tiga, and Gaia in defeating the etelgar dummy of Five King
- Following Etelgar’s defeat, he later joined the Heisei ultras in blowing up his ship.
Ultraman Orb: THE ORIGIN SAGA[]
As Dyna[]
- Upon sensing that Orb’s universe was in trouble, he instantly began traveling there to go help him.
- Upon learning that a group of people were attempting to use monsters to create chaos, he immediately contacted/informed Musahani Haruna (from Cosmos’ universe) so that he could help out.
- At the end of episode 3, he saved Orb from getting injected by a Bezelb
- In episode 4, he defeated Kugutsu Birdon
- In episode 6, he and Orb went to go help Kanon fight against Velokron and Vakishim
- In episode 12, him, Gia, Agul, Cosmos all defeated Psyqueen (a combination of Queen Bezelb and Psychi). Because of this, he and the others were ultimately able to prevent Queen Bezelb from infecting all life in the universe with Kugutsu (a poison that makes/turns people hostile and violent).
As Himself[]
- Upon hearing Gai/Orb apologize to him for being an amateur and causing him trouble, he reassured him that it was okay and that people starting off as amateur upon becoming an Ultra was normal.
- By using Dyna’s light, he was ultimately defeat a bunch of Bezelbs and help Gai’s friends escape from one of Psychi's bases.
- At the end of episode 4, he contacted Musashi/Ultraman Cosmos through telepathy and requested him to stop Psychi, mainly due to Gai (at the time) having been at his limit.
- Following Juggler’s destruction of the tree of the life, he briefly called him out on it for nearly endangering the people that were nearby and for thinking he could do whatever he wanted simply because he had the power to do so.
- While talking to Musahami as Gai/Orb was traveling to Earth, he admitted having faith that Orb would be able to achieve his mission
- Following Psyqueen’s defeat, he briefly complimented Orb for his role in saving the universe (specifically the World of Planet Kanon which Origin Saga took place in).
Ultraman Decker[]
- Prior to the events of the series, he traveled to the future (in Trigger and Decker’s universe) to aid humanity in the fight against the spheres.
- In episode 23, (while in the present), he helped Kanata Asumi/Ultraman Decker defeat Sphere-Geomos (specifically by creating Ultra Dimension Cards of himself and Tiga in their Flash and Multi Types and giving to him so that he could perform the Legend Flash Multi Scram). Additionally, during the fight, he also managed to defeat Agams and force him into retreating.
- As he was about to return to his home timeline, he briefly took the time to insinuate to Asumi that the fate of his future was his choice . After that, he later gave him a thumbs up.
Ultraman Decker Finale: Journey to Beyond[]
- During his travel across the multiverse, he at one point saved Planet Lavie from a group of aliens that were sent by GibellusFollowing this, he later went on to give a bit of his light to a planet native named Dinas after noticing she was hurt. In the process though, because his light was affected by her will to protect others, he indirectly caused to transform into Ultraman Dinas (the lesser form of Decker).

- He is the very first human host in the Heisei era to be Pure Good.
- Additionally, he’s also the very first Heisei hero to be Pure Good
- He is the very first human host in the franchise to be Pure Good, not counting Yuko Minami due to her technically being an alien.
