~ Shovel Knight to Shield Knight. |
Shovel Knight is the titular main protagonist and mascot of the critically-acclaimed franchise of the same name.
He quested to save his partner, Shield Knight, whom he'd believed had been lost forever in the Tower of Fate for ages, along with the entire world, from The Enchantress and her Order of No Quarter. However, he quickly discovered that The Enchantress had possessed Shield Knight's body to take on a physical form, and he had to defeat her to save Shield Knight.
He was voiced by Komatsu Yutaro in Japanese and Sean Velasco in English.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Essentially is the admirable standard, as every other hero in the work is either too bog-standard or simply isn't on his level. He saves by far the most lives out of any hero in the series.
- He mostly uses non-lethal force when dealing with his enemies, such as the members of The Order of No Quarter, and even the more common enemies he "kills" don't seem to die for good. The only possible exception to this is The Enchantress, which was necessary due to the threat she posed to the Valley.
- While some of his more admirable actions rely slightly on player choice, he still lacks corrupting qualities without them, as often the other choice is usually just failing to accomplish something minor.
- While he's shown to be a cheater and a jerk in Plague of Shadows, ultimately, the entire story is from the biased perspective of Plague Knight, who quite clearly is making up stuff about Shovel Knight to make himself look more heroic in comparison.
- He is a very chivalrous individual who believes strongly in the concept of helping anyone in need and shows no arrogance over his abilities.
- He only uses violence as a necessity since he is shown on multiple occasions to try avoiding needless conflicts and battles whenever other characters misunderstand him or he thinks he can reason with them, as demonstrated in his interactions with Black Knight, Reize, The Baz, Polar Knight and Tinker Knight, only fighting them because they forcefully insist on it for their own respective reasons.
Shovel Knight Dig[]
- He tries to stop the Hexcavators from stealing his and Shield Knight's treasures.
- When The Enchantress emerges for the first time, he, with Shield Knight's help, temporarily stops her, and plans to head to the Tower of Fate to destroy the evil amulet in which she is contained.
Showdown[]
- While he attacks Shield Knight within the Mirror of Fate's realm, it was only because he believed it to be another nightmare. Once he later learned she was the real deal, he's much more begrudging to fight her, clearly only doing so because it's the only way to attract the Mirror of Fate, and he apologizes for what he did earlier.
- He seems to be utterly horrified by his old friend Polar Knight having slipped into villainy and joining the Order of No Quarter.
- In his story mode, he takes out the Mirror of Fate, freeing the many people trapped within its clutches.
- He vows to save Shield Knight now that he knows she is still out there.
Shovel of Hope[]
- Fights the villainous Order of No Quarter to get to the Tower of Fate, slowly liberating each place under their, and by extension the Enchantress's, control. He then fights them all again within the Tower, and can choose to save them despite them having done nothing to deserve it, technically redeeming all of them. Even not saving them isn't corrupting, as they've done nothing to deserve saving, and besides, they've withstood worse before, and regardless of what he chooses, they are all shown to be okay in the end credits
- He can help Bard collect his music sheets, which, while not admirable in any notable, particular way, is still a fairly kind thing to do.
- Tries to settle things with Black Knight peacefully, and he ultimately succeeds in convincing him that if they really want to help Shield Knight, they have to stop the Enchantress.
- Exorcises the demonic Enchantress out of Shield Knight's body by fighting her off, saving Shield Knight from the Fate Worse Than Death she experienced trapped watching the Enchantress's actions.
- When the Enchantress, without a vessel, morphs into the Remnant of Fate, Shovel Knight fights her off and defeats her for good with Shield Knight's help, finally ending her reign over the Valley.
- It's made more than clear the Enchantress's reign was utterly hellish by the sheer misery of the Valley's population, and Shovel Knight ultimately frees them all from their pain.
Pocket Dungeon[]
- While the game's canonicity is a little confusing, it has been stated to occur during the original game, while the Enchantress was still alive.
- Upon learning that multiple other people had been sucked into the Pocket Dungeon by the Enchantress, he immediately focused on making sure he could recruit the other people trapped and have everyone escape.
- Due to being one of the player characters, you can play as him to defeat the Enchantress and defeat the Master Mind to restore Puzzle Knight back into his regular form.
Trivia[]
- Ironically, while he's the only hero to properly stand out in the Shovel Knight franchise, his arch-nemesis, the Enchantress, is the only villain who manages to stand out.
- While he does have a moment of corruption when he slashes Plague Knight in the back after he is defeated in the Plague Of Shadows campaign, this would be minor since he is fighting for a greater cause than Plague Knight, and shows nothing like it afterwards. It's also stated that Plague Of Shadows is from Plague Knights point of view, so it's debatable whether or not it actually happened.
