It won't do you any good, Robotnik. I'll never talk!
~ Uncle Chuck after being caught by SWATbots and taken to Robotnik.
When Robotnik is defeated, we'll be together. Until then, I stay here.
~ Uncle Chuck to Sonic.

Sir Charles Hedgehog (also known as Uncle Chuck) is the overarching protagonist of the 1993 animated television series Sonic the Hedgehog, serving as a minor protagonist of season one and a major protagonist in season two. He is a knight in service to the king of Mobotropolis who invented the roboticizer.

He was voiced by the late William Windom.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • He built the roboticizer in order to help elderly people live longer. Upon discovering roboticized people lose their free will, he attempted to destroy it.
  • Although he was roboticized, he used the short time he was snapped out of his brainwashed state to warn Sonic and company about crystals Robotnik was planning on mining to destroy the ecosystem, and was able to foil his scheme in the process.
  • He was able to fight the roboticization and regain his consciousness. In spite of this, he pretended to still be under the influence of the roboticizer to trick Dr. Robotnik and Snively and act as a spy.
  • He warned Princess Sally Acorn and the rest of Knothole when Snively had used a memory scrambler on Sonic to find the location of Knothole.
  • He was the first one to find out about and warn Sonic about the Doomsday project, which Robotnik was going to use to eliminate all organic life and turn Mobius into a wasteland.
  • He managed to delay the progress of the Doomsday device by warning Sonic that Robotnik was bringing Fuel Tankers to the project.
    • Robotnik implies that it is the fourth time this has happened, implying that Chuck has managed to delay the progress significantly.
  • Even when caught, he refuses to reveal the location of Knothole to Robotnik, and when Robotnik tried to brainwash him, he did everything he could to fight it so he wouldn't reveal its location.
  • He gave Sonic the idea of using the Deep Power Stones to destroy the Doomsday Project and defeat Robotnik once and for all.
  • Although he refuses to return to Knothole and is cited as stubborn by Bunnie and Sally for staying in Robotropolis, this is because he plays a vital role in acting as a spy so he can be the first to find out about any of Robotnik's schemes.
  • Whenever the situation looks hopeless, Chuck always reminds everybody not to give up.
  • Although he has a minor mischievous moment where he scares Sonic, Sally and Bunnie, he only did this to show them that he was able to keep a low-profile after Robotnik found out he had regained his free will.
  • Overall, he has a very big impact in the show, as he played a large role in defeating Robotnik and protecting the Freedom Fighters, and is a very caring and determined individual who the others look up to.

Trivia[]

  • Charles is currently the only character from the Sonic the Hedgehog TV series who is considered Pure Good.
  • Since the show was intended to have a third season before it was cancelled, it is unlikely but possible that Charles' Pure Good status could have been affected.
  • It is unknown if his Sea3on counterpart will be Pure Good.
