Taran is the main protagonist in Disney's 25th full-length animated feature film The Black Cauldron. He is a farm boy who dreams of becoming a warrior. When his pig, Hen Wen, gets kidnapped, he comes to rescue her. He is also in love with Princess Eilonwy.
He was voiced by Grant Bardsley.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- Even if he doesn't like his job as a pigherd, he does it competently and he shows good treatment towards Hen Wen.
- He leads Hen Wen to a safe place.
- When he loses Hen Wen and knows that she was abducted by the Horned King, he bravely goes to save Hen Wen.
- He rescues Hen Wen, costing being captured himself.
- When he is saved by princess Eilonwy, he helps her (and indirectly Fflewdur) to escape and defeats some warriors.
- When he finds Hen Wen, she sends her back home.
- He goes to find the cauldron.
- When he is recaptured by the Horned King, he is willing to sacrifice himself and throw himself into the cauldron, but is prevented by Gurgi.
- He fights the Horned King. While he does kill him from a certain point of view, it is self-defence.
- He tries to rescue Gurgi from the cauldron and decices to abandon his carreer of the warrior to revive him.
