The servers are the seven Chaos. Chaos is power... Power enriched by the heart. The controller is the one that unifies the chaos.
~ Tikal the Echidna

Tikal the Echidna is a supporting character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, who made her debut as the posthumous overarching protagonist of Sonic Adventure.

She is a young female echidna who has a passionate love for peace and tranquility and doesn't like the use of violence to solve problems. She befriended the aquatic god, Chaos, the guardian of the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald, as well as the Chao. Being the daughter of Chief Pachacamac, she was once the princess of the ancient Echidna Tribe who was taught all the legends, the sacred mantra, and the way of pacifism which Tikal took to heart. After her grandmother passed away, Pachacamac turned the Echidna Tribe into a militaristic nation and attacked the neighboring tribes. One fateful day, Pachacamac and his army attempted to take the Emeralds for themselves so they can be unstoppable when they conquer other cultures and Tikal attempted to dissuade them from invading the sacred grounds, but he doesn't listen and she was cast aside alongside the Chao. His actions enraged Chaos, who decimated the attacking army including Pachacamac and went on a rampage. As a result, Tikal resorts to using the Master Emerald to seal herself and Chaos in the Master Emerald, eventually leading to the events of Sonic Adventure.

She was voiced by Kaori Asoh in the Japanese version and by Elara Distler in the English version.

What Makes Her Pure Good?[]

  • She embraced her late grandmother's philosophy of the use of pacifism rather than violence to resolve issues and the understanding of the ancient legends.
  • Since her grandmother perished, she has made multiple attempts at trying to persuade her father and the tribe not to go down a dark path even if it didn't work out.
  • She managed to coax the Chao into approaching her when they were initially scared of her, and she even became close with the water spirit, Chaos, and was also permitted to approach the altar.
  • When Pachacamac makes his intentions of stealing the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald and using their power to become invincible when they conquer other lands, Tikal first warns Chaos about this and insisted that it must leave, but Chaos clearly couldn't leave the shrine.
  • She bravely steps between the sacred shrine and her father and his army and made one last attempt to dissuade them from proceeding and adds that their true enemy is their greed, which once again fails.
  • After Chaos had destroyed Pachacamac's army and went on a rampage, Tikal sacrifices herself by using the sacred mantra that was taught to her earlier to seal both Chaos and herself inside the Master Emerald to restore peace and prevent further destruction, which would hold for four thousand years.
  • After Dr. Eggman broke the Master Emerald apart, which in turn releases Tikal and Chaos from containment, Tikal then searched for anyone who would answer her pleas for help in stopping them before history repeats itself.
  • Throughout Sonic Adventure, she aids all of the playable characters in the form of a red orb of light, giving them guidance concerning where to go next and explaining how the power-ups that they find work. Examples of the aid she gives includes helping Knuckles retrieve the pieces of the Master Emerald, helping Amy evade Zero, and helping Big get Froggy back. Most notably, she even supports E-102 Gamma, particularly after they leave Eggman and begin liberating the animals that are trapped in the other E series robots, showcasing that she even sympathized with them despite the fact that they initially served Eggman in his plans.
  • While she guides Sonic and Tails in stopping Eggman utilizing Chaos for his own ends, she never expressed any actual resentment, hatred or other negative sentiments towards him despite the great danger he was putting many people in, likely only viewing him as someone who was recklessly trying to control a creature he didn't really understand, and therefore, had to be stopped, showing, despite her father and tribe's actions, she doesn't even bear ill will towards generally evil people like him.
  • After Chaos absorbs the last emerald, becomes Perfect Chaos and causes a major flood in Station Square, Tikal meets Sonic and doesn't hesitate to suggest sealing them inside the Master Emerald again, even if it means sealing herself inside too, and though Sonic rightfully points out this won't actually calm the beast's anger, it appeared to her to be their only option, as well as the only way to prevent further casualties at the time.
    • However, after Sonic and his friends figure out a better way of stopping Chaos's rampage by having Sonic utilize the positive energy from the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic and use this new form to tame the beast's rage, she doesn't object to it, implying she was fully on board with the plan.
  • After Chaos's rage was finally settled, she speaks to it like an old friend she's reunited with despite it previously going berserk, killing her clan and threatening the world, showing no resentment or mistrust. She also shows Chaos that the Chao it was protecting were still alive and cared for as a way of assuring its previous efforts weren't completely in vain before departing with it to live in peace.
  • It is implied that she will fight herself, when necessary, but only for the right reasons.
