What's the Work?

Five Nights at Freddy's is a fanfiction series created by AIEchidna, Cypris, and FathomsBelow68.

It is a complete rewrite of the original lore, with the first four games only being canon.

Who's the Character?

Sparky the Dog is a minor posthumous protagonist of AIEchidna's Five Nights at Freddy's, being the main tritagonist of the prequel chapter, Five Nights at Freddy's: The Beginnings.

Originally a member of The Fazbear Family, Sparky would end up becoming a scrapped animatronic around the 1985 location.

What Did He Do?

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Beginnings

Sparky first appears once Freddy and the crew wake up, excited and playful. As they learn more about the pizzeria, Bonnie heads down to the office and finds a night guard, who Bonnie (followed by Sparky) accidentally scares.

Later on, Sparky (along with the other three) find out Freddy had murdered a night guard, Sparky, terrified, asks Freddy what he had done to the man, Freddy, however, smiles and walks away from the office as the rest stare in shock, horror and disgust.

After the murder spree, the place closes down with Freddy becoming more bitter and insane, the other four try to help their friend, but it fails, with Sparky being backhanded twice, and the dog being too scared to speak at all.

After a little while, the five are picked up and brought to the 1987 location, with the five being tossed into Parts & Service. It's revealed, that after years of murder, Sparky had become scared and helpless, unable to muster anything more than a whimper.

In 1993, after the events of Withered and about a week before Refurbished, Sparky was revealed to have become used again, atleast temporarily. The dog is counting heads in the backstage while humming to himself, when Freddy and friends come in with another corpse. However, Sparky and Freddy start to argue shortly after the other three leave, it reaching a peak after Sparky calls Freddy a beast.

Freddy chuckles and continues to threaten Sparky, but Sparky, although scared, tells Freddy that he'll make sure the bear doesn't hurt anyone else, sending the bear into hysterics. However, the dog raises his fists.

Freddy lunges at Sparky, but is caught offguard when Sparky actually manages to land a good hit on him. This starts a fight between the two, which escalates once Sparky tackles Freddy and punches Freddy's nose, which startles Freddy.... who quickly grabs Sparky by the waist, rams him into the wall and finally ripping off the dog's arm.

However, Freddy pauses his onslaught, and appears remorseful, before turning around and muttering an apology. Sparky is stunned, but his tail wags and he walks up to Freddy, telling the bear that he forgives him. However, he is cut off by Freddy suddenly impaling his chest.

Revealing his "redemption" to be a trick, Freddy begins violently beating down the dog to his final breath. As he's on his final words, he tells Freddy that, despite it all, the bear is still his friend.

Freddy chuckles and tells Sparky to "Just die like the nuisance [he] is." and splits his head in half.

The other three animatronics are terrified by this act of carnage and almost rebel, but Freddy warns them against it.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Refurbished

Sparky's fate is remembered by Bonnie and Chica.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Finale

While hiding from Bonnie, Matthew utilizes Sparky's split head (which hadn't been thrown out) and uses it to disguise himself from Bonnie, who, due to his damages, believe that Sparky had really returned.

In a nutshell

  • Overall, Sparky is a nice, incorruptible, and caring animatronic dog.
  • Sparky was, and remained, a loyal friend to the Fazbear Family (even Freddy), even after death.
  • Upon seeing the original corpse, Sparky was terrified and clearly hadn't approved of Freddy's actions.
  • Despite being a member of the family, he refused to join Freddy and friends' onslaught out of his own moral code.
  • Realizing the night guard cycle would never end if Freddy wasn't stopped, Sparky decided, although terrified, to (in vain) try and kill the bear to end the repeating cycle.
    • If he had killed Freddy, this would've been entirely justified given what a monster the bear is.
  • Sparky was willing to forgive Freddy, even after all the abuse and torment the bear had inflicted on him.
    • Even further, after Freddy's "apology" was revealed to be a con, and even after Freddy had brutally beaten Sparky down to his last breath, the dog told Freddy that despite it all, the bear was still his friend, directly before Freddy crushed his head.
  • He had a legacy as Bonnie, Chica and Foxy cared about him, and would avenge him by killing Freddy themselves at the end of Finale.

Corrupting Factors

He completely lacks them, Sparky is a heroic, polite, excited and humble character, with him only getting justly mad at Freddy for killing several night guards and refusing to join the four killers at all due to his morals.

Admirability Standard

This is where the rough part comes in. While he failed rather than being able to beat Freddy, he still stood up to him and nearly beat him, as well as being the only one to forgive him despite it all, even during death.

It may seem like Sparky fails the standard, but with his actions given his screentime in the story (with him being alive for a short prequel chapter), as well as potentially being Freddy's complete character foil, I think he barely manages to pass.

Final Verdict

Weak yes to the good boy.
