My second proposal on here, and also another OC of mine. This time it's Sarah Vaugn from Turning Red: The Panda Conspiracy.

What is the work?

Turning Red: The Panda Conspiracy (https://archiveofourown.org/works/55277731) is the sequel to Turning Red: Secrets of the Panda, continuing the story of Meilin Lee and her cousin Xia as they evade a corrupt government organisation known as the PCA, who are hunting them down purely for possessing the ability to transform into giant red pandas. This time around, they must escape the clutches of the groups ruthless and sadistic leader, Harvey Vaugn, as he plans to kill them for his own selfish reasons.

Who is she?

Sarah Vaugn is the daughter of Harvey Vaugn and the brother of Jason Vaugn. She is an agent for the PCA, tasked with hunting down Mei and her family. Unlike her relatives, she does not like doing what she does, and is only hunting down Mei and her family as she's scared of what her father might do to her if she doesn't. She is also close friends with Miriam's mum and Xia, and tries to help Mei and Xia despite them being on opposing sides.

What makes her pure good?

  • During her first scene, she allows Xia to come with herself, Harvey, and Mei to the polic station for questioning, knowing Xia is there to keep Mei calm
  • While she does seem dismissive of Mei's abilities at first, this isn't out of any intended disrespect but rather genuine disbelief that people could have such powers
  • When Harvey has Mei arrest after the latter reveals she has the ability to transform into a giant red panda, Sarah tries to stop him and is outraged at his behaviour.
  • She goes with Xia to recue Mei after telling her that Harvey has taken to be executed
  • Helps Mei and Xia escape from Harvey as the latter pursues them throughout the streets of Toronto during a car chase
  • Takes Mei and Xia to the latter's house after the latter has an emotional breakdown over her mother's death (which Sarah had a hand in, something she later regrets).
  • While she does help Harvey kill members of Mei's family, she's only doing so because she's being manipulated by and is afraid of him, and not out of any hatred for Mei and her family.
  • When she captures Xia, she promises to leave Mei alone as she is just a child and doesn't agree with capturing or killing people just for having a bit of fun.
  • She tells Xia her full backstory, despite having no reason to do so, showing that she does genuinely trust Xia. She also does this to help take down Harvey Vaugn and stop his crimes.
  • Despite killing Xia, she is highly remourseful right after. This shows that she viewed Xia as a friend and never once wanted to kill her, and only did so since she was decieved by her father into thinking all of Mei's kind were dangerous.
  • She convices Harvey to let Mei go, knowling full well that Harvey would likely kill her for it
  • She helps Mei take down Harvey at Xia's house, showing how much hatred she has for her father
  • After Harvey is arrested, she decides to keep her own red panda spirit which she aquired during the fight not only because she enjoys it, but also as a way to atone for everything she's done.
  • Much like Xia, she manages to pass the admirable standards for helping take down Harvey and not relying at all on fridge brilliance.

Mitigating factors:

I would say the fact she helps Harvey take out members of Mei's family could be a mitigating factor. However, she does end up siding with Mei in taking down Harvey and later appologises to Mei for everything she's done, which means this factor is somewhat subverted. So, I'd say she doesn't technically have any.

Verdict:

I'd give her a yes, myself.
