No this is not a joke. Copy pasted from my HFW proposal.
Who is he? What is the work?
This is specifically about Flipside!Dave, not his villainous persona Davetrap. Only his actions will be mentioned here.
Dave Miller is the main antagonist of the Dayshift at Freddy's trilogy, a comedic trilogy of games by Direct Doggo which are essentially Meme-Games about the Fnaf lore but cranked up to 100%. Dave in this case is the Flipside variant, a much more heroic and less antagonistic version of himself.
While Dave himself started off as a child murdering psychopath, it should be noted that Dave was completely doing it because Henry made him do it, which lessens the load. While Dave did continue to Murder, he wasn't in full awareness as he was manipulated by Henry to the point of thinking that this would make his former "Friend" proud and continue his legacy. While the normal Dave is a sadistic lunatic, The Flipside version of Dave (who is Dave's soul essentially) possesses none of his Psychotic of Sadistic tendencies, and is instead more of a Comic-relief Hero over a Sadistic Comic Relief.
What has he done?
- While Dave started off a sadistic murderer, as seen above, he was entirely manipulated into doing it by Henry, and while he took pleasure in it, his Reasonable side, aka Flipside!Dave did not, noting that his real-world Counterpart "Really is a monster", showing his disgust for what he's done.
- He helps Jack in the flipside find Dee, Scott, and Steven, Dave is usually the one to talk to them and get them to let go of their past grudes against them so that they can move on.
- Dave is even the one to influence Jack to free Steven, because he liked him.
- When told the story of how Steven became a Phoneguy, Dave is horrified about how awful Henry was, stating he needed some time to think, showing how truly unaware he was of Henry's true crimes.
- When they come face-to-face with Henry in the Flipside, Dave is willingly helping the group, showing that inspite of his past with Henry, he's finally ready to bring down this monster.
- In the Finale, when all of them are set free because Henry's gone, Dave asks Jack to come with them, and be free. When Jack replies his can't, Dave simply replies "Thanks for Putting me back together."
- While his Flipside counterpart does fight the animatronics, Dee, Steven, Scott, Etc. Its all in self defense, and heeds Jack asking him not to cause immense harm.
Preventions/Mitigating Factors?
- Morality Issues?
- None. Nothing in the game implies Flipside Dave is morally unaware, even providing the opposite, since he's entirely aware of how awful he was in life and how much he regrets it.
- Jerkish Behavior?
- While in the first game he is quite full of insults, usually it's after something bad happens to him, or if it's just to lighten the mood. In the third game, he's far more serious, and even stops cracking jokes at other characters expense, making it a non-issue.
- Admirable Standard?
- The only real other one is Jack or Dee. Both of which, Dave passes the AS handily. While it'd be unfair to compare him to Jack due to Jack getting Fredbears blessing of eternal life, and essentially powers beyond human control, compared to Dee, Dave's just a dude who's purple and likes Kebabs. He passes handily.
- Sadism/Psychopathy (Put here because he's technically willy afton).
- None. As stated before, he completely regrets his Real World self's actions and is even disgusted at how he, and henry were.
Overall, despite Dave's actions in the First and Second games, he more than makes up for it and atones for all his past sins, going onto be one of the people to set the souls free, and stop Henry from Posthumously hurting anyone, all while shedding his corrupting factors.
Verdict?
Somehow a yes. While Dave in the first 2 games is quite the baddie, along with his Davetrap version, the Flipside version more than atones for all of them combined, and wholly reforms himself of his past crimes by helping set free the souls he put there, at no gain for him.
