With the anticipation for Hazbin Hotel season 2 high, I found this song which seems to have REALLY taken off. Who knows. Maybe it will get the same treatment as "Addict" and "Look My Way" and get canonized. Even if it does though, I feel that shouldn't discount the story of its original use, so let's talk about it.
What's the Work?
I'd Fall Again is a Hazbin Hotel fansong by MilkyyMelodies. It details how Emily, in spite of her best efforts to convince heaven to give Charlie's hotel a chance, is cast out and declared fallen.
Who is Emily? What Does She Do?
Following Sir Pentious's arrival in Heaven, along with the death of Adam, the angels were in disarray. Emily, on the other hand, recognized that Pentious being there meant that Charlie's plan could work. She even attempts to convince Sera to give the hotel a chance, but to no avail. She does give Pentious some much needed company though, as the poor guy gets locked up and treated like a prisoner the moment he arrived. She even informs Charlie about this and lets her know of how Sera continues to reject the hotel. Thus the three of them work together on planning to redeem more sinners in order to stick it to the corrupt Seraphim.
Unfortunately, Sera catches wind of what Emily had been doing. In spite of Emily's assurance that she was doing the right thing, she is ultimately banished from heaven while Pentious is even further detained. Now in Hell, Emily's appearance changes heavily. In spite of this, Emily does not have any regret over helping Charlie and knew that she did the right thing. She also takes her banishment in stride as she begins to feel like being in Hell will allow her to help with redeeming sinners a lot better than being up in Heaven as she takes notice of two sinners fighting. She flies down to stop the fight, convincing the two sinnners to be friends instead.
She eventually arrives in Cannibal Town where she finds an innocent cannibal child being bullied by three other cannibal kids. Protecting the kid from the bullies, she tries to talk to them about such behavior. When they don't show any interest in listening, she takes some bones and throws them to lure them away with the child she was protecting hugging her in gratitude. Emily soon meets Rosie who helps her by granting her a new wardrobe to better befit her new home. Emily even decides to have her nails painted the same color as Rosie's to show how much the overlord's service meant to her.
As Emily makes her way to the Hazbin Hotel, she expresses that Sera made a huge mistake sending her to hell and that by doing so, that uprising she so fears is more likely to happen if it meant the sinners would be given the treatment that are currently being denied. Upon arriving at the hotel, Charlie is shocked to see Emily, and Emily explains the situation to her and everybody else in the hotel. As Cherri Bomb begins to lash out in anger, Emily calms her down, letting her know not to get angry for her sake.
After Emily gets settled in, she looks up at the sky through the window, ready for when she shows Heaven that Hell isn't the heartless land they believe it to be.
Mitigating Factors
Alright. Let's be real here. It is true that Emily expresses intent to start an uprising against Heaven. However, given how Sera treated her and Pentious, not to mention how she refused to listen to Emily about redeeming sinners despite the clear cut proof, I'd say Emily has effectively been given every justification to want this to happen. Not just that, but she also makes it clear that she isn't wanting it for herself. She isn't out for vengeance. She is out to help those in need.
Also, Emily having bones to throw to some cannibal kids can't be used against her since it doesn't really tell us where she got the bones other than the fact that she was in Cannibal Town which would likely have bones lying around. It's how she used the bones that matters, throwing them to get rid of the bullies to help the innocent cannibal child.
Admirable Standards
Let's be real. The whole song is about Emily wanting to help those in help become better people and stick it to Heaven for refusing to acknowledge that souls can be better. She isn't wanting to start an uprising for her own personal vengeance. She wants to do it because she recognizes that a good amount of people in Hell deserve better. Not just that, but she is the one who informed Charlie that Pentious was alive and in Heaven allowing them to plan a course of action to help get Pentious accepted. Even if that didn't work out, Emily's faith and determination didn't waver as she continued to help those in Hell even as she became a fallen angel. All this culminates in her definitely proving herself admirable (prolly more so than she currently is canonically).
Verdict
Going with yes here!
