I heard what happened Gru…an attempt was made on my life as well. It seems Lucy is trying to eliminate all villains, active or inactive and has succeeded in a few cases. All because we’re a “bad influence” on the kids. Your girls. We have to stop Lucy. But first…let’s get you on your feet.
~ Vector approaching Gru as a reformed man
Squid Launcher! OH YEAH!
~ Vector during the final battle

Víctor Perkins known better as Vector is the deuteragonist of the fanmade hand drawn story Gru Redemption Arc by Briman2000, which revolves around a dark take on the Despicable Me franchise.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • Upon nearly being killed by Dru, he chose to abandon villainy and instead put his focus on stopping him from killing any more villains. Even if he believed it to be the AVL’s fault at the time.
  • He goes to Gru’s home after he’s crippled by Dru and reveals the AVL’s plans to him, recruiting him to help stop the mass murder of villains and giving him a new robotic body so he can move again and properly fight,
  • He and Gru took Vector’s submarine to the AVL headquarters, and during the ride he sympathizes with Gru’s loss of everything and his existential crisis.
  • Though Gru himself does kill a good number of AVL agents upon boarding the submarine, Vector himself does not partake in this and only ever acts against Dru after finding out he had been manipulating the AVL. He doesn’t harm anyone at any point in the story other than Dru and even then he likely didn’t mean to sink the submarine when he used his squid launcher, especially since Gru is the one that gigantified it.
  • Once it’s revealed that Dru was behind it all, Vector saved both Gru and Lucy by using his squid launcher to non-lethally take out all the remaining agents and get Dru’s attention.
  • He tried to go help Gru in the final battle with his plasma gun before being shot and apparently killed.
  • His influence is the only reason that Dru was defeated in the first place, as it allowed Gru on the submarine and ultimately allowed Lucy and the girls to escape.
  • He passes the admirable standard since the only other hero is Gru and Vector stands out since he’s the one that gives Gru prosthetic arms and legs and allows him to go against the AVL and Dru during the second half of the story.
  • While the original Vector was a terrible person who only cared about his own glory, this version displays none of those egocentric and megalomaniac traits, instead being someone who understands that what Dru is doing is wrong and chooses to change and help Gru stop his brother’s madness. In addition to the fact that any possible past villainy was offscreen, it’s not even mentioned and has no impact on the story other than it being one of the reasons he was hunted down by Dru.

Trivia[]

  • Despite originating from a fanon work, he is so far the only Despicable Me character to be Pure Good.
