~ Wan declaring his life goal after becoming the Avatar |
Avatar Wan is is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Raava) of the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise in lieu of being the First Avatar, serving as one of the overarching protagonists in The Legend of Korra.
He was voiced by Steven Yeun, and Stephen Stanton during his old age.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- While living on the Lion Turtle, Wan stole food so he can help both his friends and other people who were starving, he even shared what little food he had with the animals.
- Stole the firebending ability from the Lion turtle, but only to raid the Chou family, not for any ill intent.
- During the raid, he spared the Little Chou brother despite being able to kill them for their harsh treatment towards others.
- When given the chance to be spared by the Chou Elder if he told them the identities of those who took part in the raid, he defiantly chose not. They would have likely banished him even if he had told them of friends' involvement.
- Protected the spirits from being hunted by humans. This kind of act impressed Aye-aye spirit so much that he decide to be friends with him.
- Released Vaatu because he asked for mercy from Raava, and without knowledge of his true evil nature. Had he known it, he probably wouldn't have released him.
- Asked for forgiveness for his role in unsealing Vaatu.
- Mastered all four elements to protect the spirits as well as the humans.
- Stopped Vaatu from corrupting the mortal realm, and sealed him in the Tree of Time, thus atoning for his mistakes.
- While fighting Vaatu, he willingly allowed Raava to possess his body even if it meant him dying.
- Sealed the spirit world so that no human (excluding the Avatar) can enter the spirit world to harm the spirits or release Vaatu. This later cut off the world from spiritual energy, which Korra later left the Spirit Portals open. If Wan knew that, then he might have found another way.
- Stopped various conflicts among the fledging four Nations after they left their turtles.
- Even at the end of his life, he kept trying to maintain peace among the four Nations, inspired from which, Raava decided to continue his legacy by making his reincarnations the Avatars, thus starting the Avatar Cycle. The subsequent Avatars would later continue to be the bridge between the mortal and the spirit realm, and keep the peace and the balance between the four Nations.
- Helped an amnesiac Korra find Raava in order to stop Vaatu and Unalaq from destroying the world, showing her his memories to do so.
- While he used to be arrogant and cocky before, he later matured and mellowed out by becoming kind-hearted and peaceful individual.
