“ | The Demon Lord did conquer the world, yes. But the hero fighting for justice struggled past the pain and managed to save everyone. Get it, brother? The villain always loses in the end! | „ |
~ Yoichi Shigaraki vowing that he will stop his brother in "Vestiges". |
Yoichi Shigaraki is one of the overarching protagonists of the My Hero Academia franchise.
He is the first user of One For All and the younger twin brother and arch-nemesis of All For One. Despite his demise, he played a huge role in the series, as him transferring his quirk to his successor prevented his brother from getting his hand on it and creating a legacy of the One For All users to oppose against him.
He is voiced by Sōichirō Hoshi in Japanese, and by Stephen Fu in the English dub, the latter of whom voiced Sakuta Azusagawa in the English Dub.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
In General/Background[]
- He is shown to be incredibly pacifistic and doesn't possess any lethal intentions, especially when it comes to monstrous villains like his brother All For One. In fact, he continued to (correctly) believe that even his brother was capable of kindness deep down.
- Distracted All For One and told him to stop when he was committing a massacre.
- Before the collapse of society due to the rise of Quirks, he had a good relationship with his brother, All For One, where they spend time with each other by reading superhero comic books.
- Had a strong sense of justice and saw through his brother's evil ways, and he believed that Quirks should be used to restore order.
- Attempted to stop his own brother from giving Quirks to others, despite him supposedly not having a Quirk himself, warning them that they are being manipulated.
- Refused to give into his brother's manipulative statements and tried to rebel but was constantly stopped.
- Each time his brother visited him in his imprisonment, he continued to refuse to submit to him and voiced his defiance to the point where he barely ate.
- Due to his physical weakness, he passed his quirk onto two vigilantes who saved him from his imprisonment, in hopes that it would defeat his older brother in the future, thus beginning the legacy of One For All.
- While Yoichi has zero resources and didn't have much abilities to do much due to his weak state and having a Quirk he didn't how to use, he still stands out because of the fact he created the legacy of All For One by passing his Quirk to Kudo and later on, Bruce to ensure All For One didn't get his hands on it. In addition, had Yoichi not refuse to join his brother, All For One would've conquered the world.
- Furthermore, thanks to passing One For All, he's the indirect reason behind the One For All users' heroic deeds (especially All Might's and Izuku Midoriya's), therefore attributing their admirable deeds somewhat to him.
My Hero Academia[]
The Pro Hero Arc[]
- Helps Izuku snap out of Shinso's brainwashing, during the U.A Sport's Festival.
- Assures Izuku that though, at his current level, he can't show him more but he's not alone.
Heroes Rising[]
- He and the other users, wanting to continue to harness One For All to Izuku, recognizing him for his heroism, temporarily transfer their power to Katsuki Bakugo to defeat Nine, ensuring Izuku does not lose the quirk.
The Paranormal Liberation War Arc[]
- Warns Izuku that Tomura is awakening, this allows him to keep his classmates out of danger.
- Stops Tomura and All For One's attempt to decay Nana's vestige.
- When All For One derides and insults Izuku for putting his Quirk in the hands of an inexperienced boy, he rebuts his brother's arguments by praising Izuku's resolve to save people no matter what and deems him worthy of wielding the Quirk and that the fallen predecessors will follow him no matter what.
- It is revealed that One For All was itself a power made to resist All For One, and they had been cultivating it for the specific purpose of defeating him and preventing him from stealing One For All.
- Accepts Izuku's answer to save Tomura Shigaraki, since he is another victim to All For One, and tells him that he and others will be there for him.
- Successfully manages to help Kudo and Bruce converse with Izuku, by reminding the both of them that had though their initial plan was to kill him due to his ties with All For One they instead chose to rescue him from his imprisonment, had they not rescued him then One For All's legacy would not have existed.
- Reassures Kudo and Bruce that Izuku will bring down All For One's reign of terror and convinces them to help Izuku, allowing him to be better prepared when using the third user's Quirk.
The Final Act Saga[]
- He and the other vestiges of One For All, grew deeply concerned about Izuku's self-destructive behavior (as well as his mental state) and attempted to tell him to rest.
- He and the other vestiges helped and supported Deku throughout the Final War and his battle with Shigaraki.
- Despite All For One having killed him and being a monstrous sadist, he showed no joy at him reduced to a pitiful state.
- In his final moments, he apologized to his brother for not being able to lead him down the right path but still tells him that he must pay for using and manipulating so many others. He also plays no part in killing his brother unlike the users, proving how strong his love for his brother still was, despite his vile actions.
Trivia[]
- Out of his successors for One For All, 5 out of 8 of them are also approved as Pure Good.
