I made a wish on the puzzle. 'I wish for friends'... friends I can count on, friends who could count on me, no matter what!
~ Yugi Muto

Yugi Muto is one of the titular main protagonists of the trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh! and the main protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. He is a skilled duelist who is an ally to Yami Yugi. He participates in major duels to stop villains and to try and save his friends and family and the world.

He is voiced by Megumi Ogata in the first Toei anime series, Shunsuke Kazama in Japanese and Dan Green in English in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • A supportive friend and ally to those around them. He is shown to encouraging those around them like Joey Wheeler in his duels and is the voice of reason and heart of the group alongside Téa.
  • When he defeats Joey in a duel, Joey offers him his card, but Yugi rejects it, stating that he isn't looking to win to get rich, but to save his grandfather. He tells Joey to sell it himself so that he can use the money to pay for his sister's eye surgery.
  • He is willing to help Seto Kaiba in his quest for his kidnapped brother, Mokuba Kaiba, despite the latter's egocentric and individualistic attitude towards him.
  • He went out of his way to try and locate and protect his grandfather from Pegasus J. Crawford.
  • When he battles Seto Kaiba in order to being granted entry into Pegasus castle, once near defeating him, he refuses to continue the duel with Kaiba after he stands on the edge of the building where the duel was taking place in an attempt to make Yugi not attacking him (as the impact of the attack would knock Kaiba from there), which ultimately caused Yugi's defeat and temporary fear to Duel.
  • During the duel against Mai Valentine in Pegasus' tournament, he refrained from allowing the Pharaoh Atem to take control of his mind to prevent him from doing any potential damage with his mystical powers to her in order to win the duel (which nearly made him lose). He later gives him another chance and allows him to help him win the duel.
  • During his duel against Joey, who was brainwashed by Marik, Yugi steps in to take Yami Yugi's place and with his sheer will along with his inseparable bond to his best friend, he eventually manages to help Joey overcome Marik's brainwashing, with Joey returning back to normal. Just when Yugi was about to drown, Joey saves Yugi at the last moment.
  • During the duel against Rafael, he sacrificed himself to protect Yami Yugi from being absorbed into Orichalcos even though Yami Yugi at that moment was overcome by his pride too much to care about Yugi's well-being. This made Yami Yugi emotional, though this wasn't intentional on Yugi's part.
  • Even while being under Dartz's control as one of the four Mirror Knights, he had enough willpower to resist and refuse to attack Yami Yugi and Seto Kaiba. He even managed to tell Yami Yugi to not worry about him and his friends and even thanked Seto Kaiba for freeing both him and his friends from being brainwashed by Dartz.
  • Refusing to give up, he defeated Yami Bakura in a duel by using Gandora the Dragon of Destruction's special effect to remove all monsters on field, then used his Special Summoned Silent Swordsman to finish off Yami Bakura's life points.
  • He then reunited with Yami Yugi and help defeat Zorc Necrophades along with his friends by remembering the Pharaoh's real name, Atem.
  • He reluctantly lets Yami Yugi go to the afterlife. His reluctance was inevitable.
