In the undening rain... Through the winding, neon cityscape... Draped in my raincoat, I roam in search of my missing memories. What secrets lurk in this labyrinth of drainage pipes...? We have yet to find the answer. The story of detectives facing the darkness that enshrouds the truth... ...is about to begin.
~ Yuma monologuing about investigating Kanai Ward in the prologue.
Shinigami: Hey, Master... You've always been relying on others until now, isn't it time for you to handle this by yourself? You may be a trainee, but you're still a detective. Try to save everybody on your own, without asking for help.
Yuma: Save them all...on my own?
Shinigami: Nah. I guess you're really not that type of person, Master. I'm just teasing ya.
~ Shinigami encouraging Yuma to solve Dr. Huesca's murder in Chapter 4 by himself, prompting him to do so with Vivia Twilight following behind.

Yuma Kokohead is the main protagonist of the 2023 adventure game Master Detective Archives: Rain Code.

He is a supposed detective trainee of the World Detective Organization who was granted permission to investigate Kanai Ward by himself of the aforementioned name, and his talent is supposedly cooking. Specifically, he came to Kanai Ward alongside other Master Detectives to solve Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret. However, he is in truth the organization's leader, Number One, and the old man giving orders for the detectives to investigate the city is actually a body double he personally hired. Number One had the death god Shinigami possess him to conceal his Forensic Forte: Coalescence, allowing him to enter Kanai Ward under the alternate identity of "Yuma Kokohead", the real trainee who has that name. He is enemies with his evil homunculus, the culprit of the Great Global Mystery, and the CEO of Amaterasu Corporation, Makoto Kagutsuchi, who he turns out to have actually been a mere pawn for the corrupt CEO to use in a bigger scheme.

He is voiced by Katsumi Fukuhara in the Japanese version and Lucien Dodge in the English version, who also voiced K1-B0 in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • He exposes Yomi's hitman (the Fake Zilch), the priest and worshipper, Yoshiko, Waruna and Kurane, Icardi, and his boss Yakou Furio as the culprits of their respective cases and regrets having to reap their souls as punishment each time upon solving said cases, even though it's necessary to avenge their victims and for the Peacekeepers to stop antagonizing him based on false evidence.
  • He remains polite to everyone in the Amaterasu Corporation despite them being his enemies, which can be disarming for the player, as his casual behavior makes one forget that they're villainous and the sole cause of all of Kanai Ward's issues, what with the corporation being a negative influence on everyone. Unlike the rest of the Nocturnal Detective Agency and especially the resistance, he mostly avoids holding them accountable for their corruption, instead focusing on the villainy in Kanai Ward's citizens.
  • Though he shows anger towards Icardi and Makoto Kagutsuchi for their villainous acts, this is entirely justified on his part considering how deep their villainy goes and how openly careless they are about it while confronting them in the Mystery Labyrinth. The occasional anger he displays towards Shinigami is also justified due to her apathetic and morally dubious comments from her perspective as a death god.
  • In a retroactive sense, he uses his position as Number One and the leader of the World Detective Organization responsibly, that being to confront his evil homunculus clone Makoto Kagutsuchi after erasing his memories using Shinigami, and makes no hesitation to confront Makoto upon discovering his relevance to the mass kidnapping case occurring globally.
  • By the end of the story, he reforms Amaterasu Corporation CEO Makoto Kagutsuchi, his arch-enemy and the one who influenced the events of the story to happen through his many crimes and exploitation of those around him, to become a more ethical company executive, aiding the citizens of Kanai Ward in their plight caused by the homunculus experiment conspiracy caused by the collaboration between Amaterasu Corporation and the Unified Government three years ago than exploiting them for his own selfish gain.
  • Overall, Yuma (or rather Number One) is a responsible detective with no corrupting traits and ends up being the only one to reform the game's main antagonist, Makoto Kagutsuchi, with the other heroic characters besides Fubuki Clockford either being too basic or too inconsistent.
