Zack Fair is a minor character and posthumous protagonist in Final Fantasy VII. His personality and backstory are expanded upon in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, appearing as the protagonist of Crisis Core, a supporting character in Before Crisis, and a minor character in Advent Children and one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Aerith) of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. He also appears as a playable character in Ehrgeiz and a minor character in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
He was voiced Nozomu Sasaki in Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring, and currently by Kenichi Suzumura in the Japanese version, and by Rick Gomez and Caleb Pierce in the English version of the Final Fantasy VII remake.
What Makes Him Pure Good?[]
- He sacrificed himself against thousands of SOLDIERS to protect his friend Cloud and passes the Buster Sword to him, so that he could save the world from Shinra and Sephiroth.
- He helped his mentor, Angeal, stop the War of Wutai.
- He regrets all the unsavory actions of Shinra in which he abetted or enabled, knowing or unknowingly. For example, he had moral objections to the Turks' dirty work even before his opinion of Shinra was destroyed because of the Nibelheim Incident.
- He saves the Shinra Building and the scientist Hollander, defeating the Genesis and their copies with the help of Tseng, Reno, Rude, and Cissnei.
- Lacks the bad qualities Cloud would later develop due in part to his trauma over witnessing Zack’s death.
Trivia[]
- Zack Fair, along with Aerith Gainsborough and Tifa Lockhart, is one of the three Final Fantasy VII Pure Goods.
- Had he survived, he would have shared his knowledge of Shinra’s atrocities with the public, helped Avalanche defeat the evil company and Sephiroth, and potentially even save Biggs, Wedge, Jessie and Aerith’s lives, making him even more noble.
